Custom UI Question

WAY HAY! ZBrush 3.5 on the way!!! Mac users will also be happy.

Anyway! Moving on to my question

I’m now building a custom UI for my self as I feel confident enough to need one.

When you right click on the screen you get a little menu pop up with smaller icons for selecting your alphas, textures, ztools, strokes.

is there a way to have those as buttons in my custom UI rather than the bigger buttons that appear on the left in the default UI?

Thanks in advance people!

Yes. With Preferences>Customize>Enable Customize active, open the Stroke palette (for example) and then drag the upper right icon out to the shelf. When on the shelf it will behave exactly the same way as the larger version – so when you click on it, you’ll get the pop-up window.

What’s more, you can turn off Preferences>Interface>Use Wide Buttons. This would allow you to put four total icons into the same space on the shelf that’s taken up by just one of the large ones. Or you could have a vertical column of narrow ones, cutting the width of the left shelf in half.

It’s nice to have choices.

Indeed it’s great to have choices! This ability to create a totally custom UI is GREAT! I love it!

Thank you for your help aurick. Yet again your help is really appreciated.

Did you know that you can actually save specialized layouts for particular types of tasks? These can be saved and loaded through the Preferences palette. There’s even a pair of buttons in the title bar to move between custom layouts.
