I’m trying to dial in my personal user interface. I would like to have the
“Activate Symmetry” button always visible. I enable customize in the Custom
UI dropdown and drag the button to where I want it and then save the configuration. When I launch ZBrush it’s gone. This method has worked for all of the buttons that I have personalized but not this one. Any ideas?

That’s because ZBrush doesn’t activate certain features unless they are related to what you are doing. In this case, Symmetry doesn’t become active or show until you click on a 3D tool. Personally, for the most part, I agree with this method, but not in this situation because it is one UI element that you can’t customize. Now, I believe that for the most part, Zbrush is used for 3D and not 2.5D, so why Zbrush opens with the Simple Brush (2.5D tool) as its currently selected tool is something that I don’t understand. Maybe if ZBrush opened with a 3D tool like the sphere as its current tool then maybe the Activate Symmetry button would be customizable. I hope they fix this in a future update.
You can use Svengalis Toggle Symmetry buttons which will stay on the UI. The only drawback to these is that they don’t highlight to indicate their on/off status.
