ZBrush 4: It’s sounds stupid, but how can I use the curve stroke to hide/show parts? ALT key is supposed to add points to the curve, but in this case ALT is also used to invert the action (hide the selected area), so after the first point is added, I can’t add anymore using the ALT key? I’ve tried to search the forums unsuccessfully.
Tap and release ALT to add a point, hold ALT while releasing the mouse button/pen stroke to invert, and for normal action release the alt before the mouse.
Maybe I’m missing something from your instructions, I just want to create a curve to hide geometry, I’m not trying to accomplish anything special, just exploring. So I CTRL+SHIFT to change into the selection brush and change my stroke from Rect to Curve. Now I click in the canvas and start drawing the curve. First a straight dotted line shows the path, fine, it’s what you would expect, then I tap ALT to create the first point in the curve, it’s OK but now the dotted line turns into a selection green area and ALT no longer adds points, just change the normal/invert status. If you combine the SelectRect brush with a Circle stroke, you draw circles, if you combine it with the Lasso stroke, you draw lassos, but if you combine it with the Curve stroke, you can’t draw curves, probably because there is a conflict with the ALT key.My conclusion is this: you can’t use a curve to hide/unhide geometry. am I missing anything?
What youre trying to do there by switching the selection marquee stroke type to curve doesnt seem to be supported at present. The Select lasso (freehand) works well for most purposes you would want a path for.
However, you can use the mask curve brush, which functions as you describe, to mask part of a mesh. Then you can use the HidePT function in the Visibility Palette to hide the unmasked portion. Ctrl-clicking in the empty canvas will invert the mask selection, so you can instead hide the inverse.
[edit] sorry, it took me a couple edits for this to make any sense at all.
It’s been a while since the last time I used zbrush and I was just exploring, it is not that I need to use the curve stroke, thanks. There are a lot of new things since version 3.5 that I overlooked…
Bumping this because i’m hoping there is a way to do this and someone may know how.
