Curve start/end point question.

Is it possible to lock the starting point and end point of a curve so they don’t move while editing said curve? I tried using masks, and while it will mask any part of a curve, the parts that are masked still move. I’m finding this all very frustrating, because the more I edit a curve, the more the start/end points move. So I have to keep moving them back to where they’re supposed to be (on my dynamesh) and this messes up all my edits to the rest of the curve. I get farther and farther away from what I’m trying to achieve the more I edit it, rather than closer. It seems to slowly become increasingly straight the more I edit it lol. Tips would be welcome.

I have been wondering the same thing. In my experiments I find the last point on the curve (open circle) appears to be locked while editing other points (unless you move its point or it is within the brush size icon or fall off zone). The first end point tends to “slip” position if you move the first point ajacent to it. Nevertheless it appears when you edit you are pulling on edges not points.

I do find that the more points I have Max Points set to the better the end points stay where they should. With a setting of 4 for instance the end points won’t stay put as there is not enough geometry to support even a small edit. When I set it to 10, I start to get a better locking of the end points and of course you can go much higher than that.

The best approach I’ve found so far is to set the last point where you want it then work backwards to the starting point editing the curve and adjust the starting point position last. I’m not sure that this the best approach for all situations.

Of course with a max points setting of 4, after drawing a curve, the geometry might be more easily edited by the Move Brush.

Another observation I’ve made regarding the Curve Surface Brush (only). You can have a low max point setting as you draw out curves then set it up higher on a subsequent curve and all the geometry updates to the higher point setting. This may be useful in some situations. I does not however work in the opposite way i.e. you can’t reduce the point count after drawing a higher point curve.

I don’t know if this helps your situation but it is what I’ve observed so far.

Thanks for the comments! Lots of good info there. I’ll keep them in mind next time I attempt to use the curve brush. :+1:
