Here’s a character I have been using to learn modeling in maya. I did the sketches a long time ago and then a head in Maya but keep putting off the body. I was just learning edge loops with the head and I thought it was going to take a long time to do the body, but I did in it Zbrush in less than a day. This is a WIP but I’m really happy that Zbrush speeds up my workflow.

I’m still having some difficulty understanding how to make flat sharp shapes like the edge of the heart or trim. Any advice is welcome. Thanks. heart.jpg

This is a wonderful character! To get the heart sharp may take repositioning some polys. However the bump material can be used to accentuate. Have you tried the Pinch brush??? That and strategic masking should do it as well!

Thanks for the positive energy Jason!! Very encouraging and refreshing.

I’m familiar with the masks. Will use them as I move along with this project. I’m still trying to understand the whole workflow flow…and the tempo of it. It’s all fresh to me. I’m still shocked that I did the body in on a day with Zpheres.

One thing, I saw a tutorial somewhere that said the pinch tool can be adverse to the geometry. I thought it was something to be wary of? I will be happy to include it if it helps.

Thanks for the advice

Looks pretty kewl so far.

I did a quick little script for ya…masked out a heart…Ctrl I will inverse the mask to refine it while working…and the Layer Brush and shift and Draw will smooth out the roughies …and used a low zadd intensity…10ish…

thnx for sharing your progress,
Ron

I think I missed an opportunity early in the cage to set in better edges.

Maybe I should redo the belly and chest mesh to be more circular? or is the resolution OK? (see first pic.) Maybe it’s just good practice to do it anyhow.

You can still save the belly with Zbrushes edgeloop function. Drop me a PM and I will show ou what I mean.

Cheers mate!
