Here’s my final rendering. Nothing spectacular to you guys, but I had fun making it

took the unlucky man into photoshop and composited some renders… I repositioned the dog and changed the angle a bit. All renders came from ZB.

ill cut you some slack, thats some damn good full colour work there.
I love the bump mapped alien queen, and the dog biting that poor guy is
pretty creative, looks like a random idea.
if you wanna do better, i guess youll have to get a feel for art a little more, its hard, but if you cant pull out really good pencil sketching, most of the artists here (not even the good ones) can all draw really well too… maybe you should pick up some drawing skills on the side maybe.
the alien queen is really neat, but its a little too mechanical perhaps, but the colours are great.
Thanks Rouncer. I appreciate the severing of the slack, lol.
I am not a very good illustrator, this is incredibly true. I used to be, but like anything, if you don’t practice… suck, you will. In fact, that is one reason I love to make these pieces: they are better than my 2d drawing will ever be. Admittedly, THEY would be much better… if I could illustrate :/…
the old guy /dog comp not intended as a full on picture piece, it was initially an anti drug message that a friend asked me to make for him… something along the lines of, “could be worse… I could be addicted to (insert drug here)” That was a lot of fun to make.
The Queen was a labor of love. I LOVE and I mean, love as in have thousands of dollars in ALIENS merchandise. I’ve only done one other ALIEN related piece and it was just a speed sculpt, most of the stuff I’m commissioned to do is concept art related, so I took the same approach to this piece.
The way I work is, I frame the piece up the way I like it, then using very poor rough sketching abilities (I can admit it too, lol :]), I sort of do a rough concept of how I want the details to go. At that point since I have a specific angle framed, I only detail what the camera can see, which I know is not good for turntable work, but it’s GREAT for 2D stuff.
Once everything is detailed I apply a base color, then I render 3 light passes using the FAST render setting, then one FLAT render, one BEST render and then one DEPTH GRAB… then I go crazy overlaying things in photoshop!
During my wedding reception, my youngest half brother gave me a few scribbles of paper and asked me to make them into 3d images… so here’s the first parts to the first image.[

He was created with Zspheres then taken into MAX and refined a bit, then taken back into ZB…
Just a WIP, the entire image includes another beast and some helicopters, lol. Anything for family, right?
Been a while since I posted on here, I just had to mentally prep myself for all the comments I’ll get about what to fix/what others don’t like etc… lol, so after a small hiatus, I’m posting my current WIP.
so far its about 11 million polys, which is a nice change from the cap of a little over 4 million I was limited to working with when I was running XP.

I like the base idea that you have going on the new piece, but rather than jumping to the 11million polygon point that you’re at I would recommend checking the silhouette of the character more at your lower subD levels. He seems very boxy on his “green” side which is hurting the piece over all. I would also watch the action line of the character. I will also recommend removing (turning off) the polypaint that you have right now. If you want the piece to really shine it should stand up to CnC without any colors. If you want you can use tonal variance (shades of gray) to help you visualize the piece and the differences of his anatomy and such.
You’re improving for sure, just keep at it and study the character’s form a little bit more before getting to the nitty gritty detail stuff.
looks like your really going at it! Interesting concepts 11mil? perhaps a little ovverkill, but fun
goast666 - Thanks for the comms. I have spent the last two years or so only working with 2GB of RAM whilst running a 32bit OS on a 64bit machine, lol, so the 11 million polys was sort of… how shall we say… a moment of happiness!
I had to do it because I was finally capable, lol. I spent so long watching you amazing artists wishing I could sculpt at the resolution you did, and i could finally afford the 8GB of RAM needed to reach the level I wanted… so as Sadicus mentioned… it was overkill, lol… I’m just glad that I could reach 11Mil without crashing on top of knowing I could still subdivide… and I realize it’s not always the POLYCOUNT that makes the piece good but the form and craft that goes in to making it is what counts… I am aware of this, and am working to step up my sculpting game with every piece.
I worked from lowest SubDs to the highest shaping him as I added resolution. My wife noticed the same block like stockiness you mentioned. I was sort of going for a William Birkin/G-Virus monster look… sort of… scrawny but then… almost elephant/stump-like monster side, lol… I took your advice and rendered this out for you to take a look at.

Sadicus - Thanks! I was still working with only 2GB of RAM when I made the alien, I may rework him a bit more to add more character to him.
hope u guys like it so far!

It’s been YEARS… time to return to one of my passions.
Here’s a few sculpts since my last time here…
As you can see, my passion for these creatures has only grown. Haha.
My predator was done in Zbrush, armor in Maya

My Alien Queen model is 10k polys, screen grabbed from substance painter. Modeled in Zbrush and Max.
Just doodling around with dynamesh and IMM brushes.
