Ctrl+shift then releasing shift not hiding geometry [Answered]

hi guys,
I’m trying to hide specific areas of geometry in z brush 4 by pressing ctrl+ shift then letting go of the shift button while keeping the ctrl button pressed and waiting for the green box to turn red and hide the selected area,but it is staying green and not removing the geometry.Would appreciate any help.
