Creature Model: The Wompus™

I took one of my creature models that I was working on in MAX and brought it into Z-Brush for some quality scultping time. No textures yet but here’s the model as it is now. The other stuff was done in MAX and is just to show the general idea I’m working with.

Feedback appreciated.

can’t wait to see it with texture on:+1:

…power of the big beast

pretty cool, How did you keep the seat, and props on top so smooth, and get all lumpy with the body of creature??? cool.

Dan, that is a super nice model. :+1:
Maybe you can show us a larger render sometime.

Thanks everyone for the feedback!

sooon: Yeah, I can’t wait to texture everything too and make a complete scene out of it. I’ve been doing a lot of tutorials so I can undertake such a task in Z-Brush.

Frenchy Yeah, he’s a young one too, and there’s a rider for him too but he’ll get the Z-Brush Makeover before I show him off here.

spaceghost Everything but the Wompus is all from MAX. This was a project I was developing in MAX and now I’ve decided to tackle texturing and rendering in Z, but I had to learn Z well enough to do that. The Wompus did undergo huge changes in Z (all the wrinkles and detail) and the rendering engine is impressive too.

ZB Larger images posted. When I get him textured I’ll post some more.

I played with the shader to better show off the detail and uploaded some larger renders.

The cavity adjustments in the material menu are great…they really add pop to the contours of the model. Pixologic has seemingly thought of everything!

Nice work. This is a very appealing figure. Memories of the 70s Heavy Metal Magazine artwork.

Hi D,

Me, too. I like the elegant excess of the saddle-harness vs the hog-hide coarseness of the corpulent mount - Wonderful!

Sven

It’s soooooo goooooood!I realy like it!Very,very good!

That is a great design, Dan. Very Star Warsian, and a face only a mother could love. 50.

tight cavity shader…superbe modeling that shader really shows it off

Thanks everyone for the feedback and comments!

Frenchy The lighting and the shader made all the difference…I had to post an update.

Jason Thanks! I like the whole Heavy Metal style…especially Frazetta and Massimilliano Frezzato…you say Frazetta, I say Frezzato…ok now I’m being silly.

Svengali Half the fun of doing this stuff is coming up with crazy stuff to model…can’t wait to texture him and do another pass in Z. Thanks for the nice comments.

Payne Why thank ya! Maybe I will put Feardeaux™ in the scene later on now that I know how to work with multiple objects in Z!

50’s Thanks! I love the whole Star Wars style…I was going for a cross between Warcraft and Star Wars.

Steven I bet you get called ‘Steven Tyler’ a lot huh? Thanks…I love the cavity shader…only discovered it the day I re-rendered this guy…and wow…I’ll be using that in the future, that’s for sure.
