Creative Share 3 - The Howl's Moving Castle

Hello everybody

I’m very pleased to introduce you one of my most ambitious project www.thr3ad.org :
THR3aD’s project contains a series of events that aim for collaboration and competition among participants, as well the sharing of CG knowledge.

So far our main event has been Creative Share, which now is already at it’s third edition with the tribute to the master Hayao Miyazaki, by reproducing in 3d the Howl’s moving castle, the main characters, and create some stills with all of them.

We also created a youtube channel www.youtube.com/thr3advideo where you can see the turntable of the castle and the characters

we’re obviously working on the castle too but since we didn’t use ZBrush on it so far I’m going to post only few images of it. If you’re interested on the whole project and to see the other pics please have a look at www.thr3ad.org

nice work so far! one crit though- the texel density on the castle is all over the place. you’ve got some small areas that have more texel resolution than some of the larger, more prominent features. hope you guys are still working on that part

btw : Hi! I’m Laura and I’m leading the castle textures group so I’ll answer to eldee.s about the texel density…
We divided the castle materials in several uvmaps so the houses and the back of the castle that have a more dense texel is due to this.
And then, after that situation of uvmap we made also other changes and divisions in other materials to let a better quality of the textures.
This was the first subdivision where each color is a material/zone :

This is awesome! The characters are looking great! Very inspiring idea! That movie was an amazing one. Glad to see someone is honoring it in 3D!

really love the characters and of course the castle. How is the texturing so far? I was planning to do this, but couldn’t figure a great way to texture it.

Amazing stuff, really love the whole concept of the project already.
Great and very unique designs of the hard surface machines or how you call them^^
Howl, Rapa , Markl and the old lady are great sculpts aswell.
Looking forward seeing the project and wished I had worked on it too hihi
