Creating your own Materials?

I’ve recently created my own matcap material successfully.
Would I be right in stating that you can’t create a Standard Material, but you can adjust the Modifiers to create a Material of your choice.

I understand the difference between Matcap and standard and am therefore assuming that using several different Matcap materials on one subtool would be unadvisable.

Thanks
Mark

you can use multiple matcaps on a single tool…you just need to be able to hide the transition…if that makes any sense.

Thanks goast666

It does make sense, however I wouldn’t know where to start. Is it something that is used as a normal workflow? or would most 3D artists use the Standard Materials?

Thanks again
Mark

it really depends on what you wish to accomplish as the end result.

If you’re using Zbrush for a sculpting tool then the materials are pretty much just used for visualization.

If you’re using Zbrush for texture work then a flat shader or a white standard is usually your best bet.

If you’re using Zbrush as an illustration tool then materials are actually really important.

My workflow involves creating characters and props for a screen play I have been working on. I’m more artist orientated rather than a writer. The finished models will be rendered into Photoshop and finalized.

I am currently working on a canon which will be made up of different materials (Chrome, metal, plastic etc). So before I get started I need to ensure I get the best possible results.

I’ve just finished a project, which consisted of just one main material, that’s why the Matcap I created was perfect for the project.

Thanks
