creating subtools (ie clothing) using the retopology tools

This may seem a stupid question but I can’t seem to find the info I need on creating objects using the topology tools. More specifically relating to the skin thickness slider. When using the slider regardless of if the value is + or - the resulting adaptive skin always has the offset suface on the inside. For example a Helmet ends up with it’s new inner surface, inside the head. The topology I draw always seems to be used by the thickness slider as the outer suface regardless of the slider value. Am I doing something wrong or is this just how this works? I would have assumed that if a +value thickens to the inside then a -value would do the opposite and thicken to the outside, or vice-versa, but no such luck it would seem?

You’re not doing anything wrong.

You’ll also find that regardless of the skin thickness, the resulting model will need some adjustments before it fully conforms to the surface it was created for. This is because on curves, the lines connecting your ZSpheres cut through the surface. The larger the span between ZSpheres, the more pronounced the effect is.

So after I’ve constructed an article of clothing, I always append it as a SubTool and then use the Move brush on the lowest subdivision level to adjust the fit. Only takes a few moments and gives very nice results.

You might also try using the Size deformation right after appending the clothes.

Thanks for your help…yet again…Aurick:D . Maybe this issue about the slider only offsetting in one direction could be sorted for v3.5?
