What would you suggest for creating a winding/spiraling staircase in Zbrush? What about simple straight stairs? I can find a lot of videos of people using Zbrush for Characters/creatures but I’d like to use it for environments, so any pointers to resources in this direction would be appreciated so I can see how others approached such standard elements and what solutions there could be. Thank you in advance.
Do you use any other 3D programs, e.g., 3D Max, Blender, Maya?
Could be done by hand. But also would be very interesting an IMM curve brush for that spiral stairs.
Start with the Helix3D and play with the initialize settings, that would make a fine starting point.
Yes, i was thinking of making them in Blender, but I thought some cool Zbrush technique might be escaping me. For normal stairs I was thinking shadowbox, but I’m on the search for a technique I don’t know in Zbrush that one could use for repeating architectural elements which are equaly spaced, something like the array modifier in Blender or some way to create multiple instances of the same object, ideally with just one to sculpt and the others changing dynamically. Haven’t found it yet, but crossing fingers and toes for Zbrush 5 that it’ll be more friendly towards environment modelling … or even better that i learn more to be able to pull off smart tricks
if you mean a simple staircase as in steps. you could try stacking some cubes, offset them, dynamesh them together, then use “sbend” in the deformation palette to get a spiral effect.
thank you very much!
I think some array modifiers in Zbrush would be nice. Until then I would use Blender in this case. GoZ it into Zbrush and go from there.
Sometimes it’s cool to say you’ve used 100% Zbrush for a project, but I’m a firm believer of use the best tool for the job and just get it done. Use the time saved to make creative changes in your projects. It’s great to see hardware and software advancing as artists we can focus more on the art and less on the technical part of our projects. I love Zbrush!
Very well said MentalFrog! I’m curious what do you use, is there an official Goz for Blender/will there be or are you using GoB?
