Creating displacement maps on tools with more than 16 million polys

Hi all ive been having some trouble creating displacement maps for tools that are over 16 million pollys with no more than 7 sub divisions. i always get an error about incificent memory and it then crashes out.
The system i am using has 8gb and when im on the zbrush the system is using about 900 mb as ive killed everything that does not need to be running.
im using plain zbrush with no alphas or materials added or anything like that, and i have set the compact memory to 4096. i am also loading in the tool and trying from there to create the map so there are no undos or anything like that, i also am compacting the memory as much as i can it gets to about 3747 free or there abouts.
im not understanding this as zbrush wont use any more than 4gb as its a 32 bit app so how do people get displacment maps from tools higher than 16 million.
any help would be much appreciated because this has been going on for a while and its having a huge effect on my work.

I cant be the only person that has come across this problem.
how do people get displacement maps from tools with a higher than 16 millions polys.
Is this a fault with zbrush 3.5 and 4, because it cant be a memory problem because i have more than it can use and its not a virtual memory problem because its set to 10 gb to 250 gb, also zbrush is on a 1 tb hdd with nothing else on it.
Been trying to sort this one out for a while now and getting nowhere
if i cant solve this soon then im going to have to go back to bloody mudbox because that can create displacement maps without any problems at all, its just a crap program

Obvious you have a superb machine! is great!!!.. but why dont you try using let say 5-6 subdivision and then jump to Geometry HD make all the sculpting details and then comeback to the lowest subdivision in BOTH Geom and HD? then you can make the dispmap easily:D

Yes it is a great machine sadly not mine its my brother in laws, i use it for zbrush when im down his way as ive not got the pennies for my own copy not yet anyway. ive not yet tried the hd part of zbrush ( still learning this great app )i normally divide the hell out of it and sculpt away.
I am round there for a bit this weekend so i will give it a go, and i will let you know how i get on.
so thank you very much for that idea the help is very appreciated.

sorry for the delay i did not get the time to test it out last week end and i did not get to go down that way this weekend so its all been planning but no actuall doing.Well that has helped big time, so thank you very much for pointing me in the right direction.
i do have some problems with it though i cannot save any tool that have over 33 million hd pollys it crashes as soon as i try. The tool only has to divions going up to 28 thousand pollys though i have had success with producing normal maps at 133 million hd pollys.
i have tried coming down to the lowest divisions but it made no difference it just crashes.
Im not sure i trust zbrush to create all of me maps and export it to maya without crashing every time.
But this is def a step in the right direction.
