creating colour maps at resolution other than 1024

Hi all.

Can anyone tell me how I can get my colour/polypaint information to a map that is 2048 or even ideally 4096. Ive read it can be done.

Whenever I click the colour to texture button in the tool pallette it creates a map at 1024 x 1024. But I need a better resolution than this.

But when I create a new texture at the res I want, 4096x4096 or 2048 x 2048, and then click the colour to texture button, nothing happens.??

I dont understand why it wont let me?

You set the size of your map in the Tool / UV Map palette.

Thanks for the quick response richard, I am eager to continue work. But, my tool pallette doesn’t look like the one in your picture. I am using ZBrush 3.1.tool_palette.jpg

Mine is 3.2 on Mac but basically the same for 3.5 on Win

Im quite sure Im following the instructions correctly…but no joy. Stumped.

But thankyou for trying Richard.

Go to the Texture menu, not the one in the tools but the one in the file menu up top. Change the size for your texture map there.

There is a plug-in for quick and easy texture sizes found here.

You can see what menu I am talking about on this page cause the plug once downloaded will be found there. It is a great plug-in which is in the 3.5r3 version.

I usually make the texture size thus creating a new texture and then select texture off then go back to the tools/texture sub pallet and hit the col to texture button. It will create a texture with the poly paint on it the last size you had a texture assigned to. Hope this Helps.

here is the wiki page, to better describe what you need to do and yes you need the UVS assigned in the Tools/texture sub palette or make your own.

3.5 had some major changes for P.C. from 3.1… the Mac 3.2 looks a lot like the 3.5r3 that we just received at least that menu does. Interesting some things ours just got you’ve all had, I didn’t know that. Been thinking of getting a Mac…

that has solved the problem perfectly. Not only that but I dont have to type in the four digit number > tab key > four digit number again. spot on. Ive been stuck for two whole days.

Im greatful to you seavannah. Thankyou…

I am glad it helped. Happy zbrushing!
