Creating a tube

Hi, new to Zbrush. I am working on jewelry type items and I come from using more traditional CAD programs. I am starting to get into using Zbrush but I still have a lot to learn.

I have a question. I have a flat rectangular plate of some thickness. I would like to roll it along one axis to make a tube. This needs to be fairly precise in its roundness. I can do this in other CAD type programs but I cannot find a good way to do it in Zbrush. If you have a suggestion I would really like to give it a try.

Thanks in advance.

Dan

Start with a primitive closer to what you need. There are no NURBS in ZBrush. Pretty sure there’s a ring3d though.

If you want a tube, you can make one quickly in ZBrush.

  1. Select the ‘Cylinder3D’ and draw it on the canvas.

  2. Turn on Edit mode (T) and then go to ‘Tool > Initialize’

  3. Change the X,Y and Z dimensions as you like.

  4. Increasing the ‘Inner Radius’ slider will make it a tube.

When you are satisfied with all your settings, click ‘Make PolyMesh3D’ button in the Tool palette.

Thanks for the replies. This is what I am doing.

I did not make the original Rosie model but I did flatted and did the placement, frame and background.

This image was made as a flat rectangle.

I then took it into Rhino and made it into a tube.

I really like Zbrush, although I have barely used any of the functionality. The next big piece of functionality will be trying to texture surfaces.
