Creating a texture map from 1 subtool to duplicate and use on another

So, as my handle suggests, I new to the world of CG and Digital Art. I have strong background in “traditional” art forms but this is my first go in this arena.

I may not be articulating this very well but I will try my best.

I am creating a model which has 24 appendages (legs). The front 4 legs are 1 subtool the next 4 are another… and so on. What I want to do is use the polypaint from one appendage as a texture map. Then use that map to paint (replicating the paint on the original) on all other appendages. Each leg has very specific markings, hard to accurately reproduce in a time efficient way. Once I have done this I will add some variability… (The model is already posed, although I am not sure this would matter.)

Is this possible? If so how? Do I need to export the map/tool to another program? Any advice, tips, or workarounds with be greatly beneficial.

Thank you!

well, if I were you I would duplicate your painted leg(s), match your pose (not sure why you did this before painting), then project your painted mesh onto the non painted mesh to grab any sculpted detail changes (assuming you have them).

I think the choice was basically made out of stupidity . As it has proven to be a pain. As this is my first project, it has been a great learning experience. Thank you for the advice, that is probably what I will end up doing.
