Create mask from layer sculpting detail?

For example:

I have a flat plane, and a new blank layer.

I sculpt a shape on the new layer. Lets say a circle…

As I can turn the sculpt on and off in the layer pallet, is it possible to use this sculpt to create a mask?

The reason I want to do this is i would like to use the deformation tools to edit the sculpt.
For example, I have sculpted some fine details on a new layer, that I would like to inflate/smooth etc… but only the details on the layer, I do not want to deform any other layers. without using a mask I will deform the entire tool.

Any ideas?

I’m confused as to what you are trying to do. If you apply the deformations to a layer in record mode then they will only affect that layer, not the whole sculpt.
