crashing and arifacting and all the usual

hello everybody

some stunning work flowing around the forums. i would contribute if zbrush WOULDNT KEEP CRASHING AND DISPLAYING CORRUPT GRAPHICS!!!..

i think i’ve blown almost every artery in my body with frustration…zbrush frustration you understand.

heres prob. zbrush has run fine on my old machine and even my laptop which is so old i think it runs on diesel, yet on my new machine, everytime i load it up and start working on any 3d object (e.g. sphere) i can push and pull the vertices around for a few seconds, sometimes even divide once or twice…but then the same problem keeps occuring.
a kind of display problem where whilst working or rotating the object, parts of it dissapear and huge spiky looking shapes appear comgin out of the object, although there is no actual mesh change there. the spikes/streaks dissapear when roating the object until either a - the object dissapears completly and crashes clean out back to windows desktop, or b…it crashes back to the desktop. this crash is reproducible everytime.

ive done the obvious - updated graphics drivers etc etc etc - no change whatso ever. same error everytime

heres my machine spec (dont you just hate it when people post their machine specs as if it is some sort of symbol status?)

sempron 3000
GA-7N400 pro 2 mother board
nvidia nforce chipset
2 gig ram
256mb radeon 9550
2 big fat sweaty hardrives
a drinks dispencer and a teleportation card from the year 9000

boo

has anyone else had this problem? if so, was it sorted?

oh yeah - im running win 2k server.
read about win2k not being able to change irq after installation - and have follwed instructions during win2k installtion to rectify this (the F5 thing) but still no luck.

help me - im dying

lots of girls (virtual) to the one who solves my prob! :stuck_out_tongue:

heres some print screen grabs of what happens before zbrush crashes

appreciate theories and preferably…solutions  PROB.jpg

I have sent you an email.

I’m gonna take a stab and say you need to scan for viruses.

Alot of students at school pirated zBrush, and it came packed with the w32.jeefo virus. They all suffered the exact same problems you described.

Of course, I’m not implying that you pirated zBrush

I’ve been having similar probablems just not as radical. Let me know if you find a fix. I actually had a foot control point weld onto a back control point in a humanlike character. All my problems happened at a high subdivision levels and you’re having it happen out of the gate. My system is faster but you have more ram so that isn’t the cure. From another post I noticed you’re using win 2000 like I am. Might have issues there. I haven’t had it happen lately but it was happening on every model at one point. Just good to know it’s happened to others. Not sure how much software you have installed. One recomemdation was running a clean system with minimal other software to avoid conflicts. I used to do that and I’m planning to go back to that. I used to use multiple swappable drives and just reboot when I needed to switch over. A pain but it helps avoid conflicts.

hi guys - interesting theory about the virus - and made me soil my trousers with fear for a brief second, though i dont think its likely as i dont connect my work machine to the net…for those very reasons. use my old gerbil powered computer for the internet.

i think i have solved/resolved what was happening - and unfortunetly, i think it was a hardware problem which maybe future zbrush release may be able to deal with or new chipsets for the machines will resolve.

i have 2g RAM in my machine, one 1G stick and two 512MB sticks. I eventually dicovered that by removing either one or both of the 512MB sticks resolved the problems i was having and zbrush ran fine - no problems at all, very stable and to ridiculous levels of subdivision! the pain in my neck suddenly went away too

ive mailed technical guy about how i resolved it to make note of the problem to see if zbrush doesnt particularly like using different RAM sizes with that particular motherboard! im going to purchase a new 1G stick and try that to see if it still works, but for now it runs fine on 1.5G!! just nice to have more as i run 3dmax and brazil RS.

let me know if it works for anyone else.
adieu

I dont know exactly how z-brush preview render works but i assume it will utillize the videocard, when rotating for example.

Could be something with your videocard drivers perhaps try to update them or downgrade…

Who knows could even be that your memory is not functioning properly… http://www.memtest86.com

But im just guessing here
