Crash on saving files

Hi all,

whenever I try to save ztl or zpr, in almost 1 out 2 saves, get my ZBrush crash to desktop with progress and work permanently lost. I can’t figure out what is causing it because this happens on a very random basis, independent on subtools or poly count involved. Even when I compact memory to max, it still doesn’t do any magic trick on not failing me upon saving. I have got 64x win7 ultimate os, 24gb ram, i7, fx3800 and with sufficient amount of free hdd space.

On a side note, even with the plugin to fix disappearance of custom ui, the software still seems to be picky on a various number of brushes and buttons, e.g. Smooth stronger brush continuously disappears from a saved custom ui.

Any suggestions on what can be wrong?

Not sure if this is the problem but give it a go.
Always save at lowest subD for all subtools.
Always remove all masks from all subtools.
Always have all geo visible on all subtools.

Wait 2sec after performing all of these steps before save.

I never have crashes during saves.
My 2 cents.

Hi beta,

thanks for the suggestions! Oddly enough 4R2 seems to be picky about when to crash and when not. Sometimes it crashes, other times it saves just fine about 30+ subtools with sum of 40+ mil polys. I think I tracked the issue down to available memory, but I don’t understand how the compact memory really works, because independent on wherever I compact it to max or not, the crashes still happen on random basis.
