could some1 help me figure something out.

I created this sword in 3ds max 9 then imported it(OBJ.) into Zbrush to get some real detail going. Problem is I have all this funky triangle geometry so I was wandering if I could booleen the outline onto a Zobject and then ditch the old model to work with my new model in Zbrush. Does anyone know how to do this???
Thnx in advance!

when you are exporting it from max in the obj export window be sure to turn on " quads " some times it will wok

I am also looking for a booleen operation, havn’t found the ability yet.

At it’s most basic: Can I remove a peg ( masked circle… etc.) From a cube.

And help or directions to threads would be great.

I haven’t heard of boolean in ZBrush. Would be neat though!

Regarding the sword, did you model it like that? Keeping your mesh mainly quads is key for working with ZBrush. Ngons cause holes. Having a few triangles is ok, but verts with more than 4 edges (poles) cause sculpting errors. I often end up with tris and/or poles, but they don’t help.

The goal is to keep the mesh w/ as many evenly sized quads as possible. This way when you subdivide it, you can evenly sculpt detail.

I don’t use max, so I’m not familiar with the obj export. You could always retopo if nothing else though.

I have to admit, some of my modeling is out of date. Eg. Lightwave 7. I have just purchased the “Large Wacom Tablet” not the draw on screen. As well as Z_brush 3 and upgrade, as well as Painter 11. So I’m some what updated.

I have a Three month trial of Solid works. Does anyone else have this? I see the program blending the line of Art and Set design. Think to “Master and Commander” the reconstruction of a studio tall ship.

I’m way off Booleen in this post, So… Thanks for the post. And any solutions to blasting a hole thru a Z-Brush “Pure” model would be great.
