Cordycep: Sketchbook 6/26/10

When I first posted on ZbrushCentral, I thought I could go postal and serve up different threads for any little reason. Now I see the way this community likes to share all works and thats through one solid thread showing all kinds of work. Okay so here’s the start of my ONLY sketchbook and ONLY thread from now on. Sorry for being a rookie.
I had the time of my life making this 28 minute speed sculpt for you guys.

I like boys!

wow that’s cool, very well translated into 3d

Layed down proportion, trying to make an ecorche, then turn that into a character later. Last time I tried to sculpt a female it was awful  . This is my second attempt after lessons learned…hopefully. C & C are always welcome. femaleanatomy.jpg

that is really scary

I would look at smoothing out a lot of the muscles particularly around the neck arms and legs
the shoulders come out too far
her knees look too far down
her breasts are too pointy and should have more mass down the bottom

take a look at some photo references align them with your model and have a look at the differences

edit: sorry didnt see that you were going for an ecorche that explains a lot of the muscle definition though a lot of them do seem to be coming out to far

Same thing here as above. The only other thread I have is a Predator Wip, so I think you can see where I’m going with this right now. Thanks for the comment Korda, I see what you mean. :+1: maleanatomy.jpg
Don’t mind the knees, I know they’re in wonkyland.

Not bad… few things to work on. The hips are too wide (that comes off as female) In the side view the “rips” in the chest shouldn’t mess with the curvature of the muscles. Your chest is choppy and it should be smooth. The back looks strange to me… Your triceps are good but the muscle should be almost the same size on either side of that split. Your inside in MUCH larger than the outside. Your legs are backwards. There is more size and muscle in the back of your legs than there are in the front.

Keep at it man. One thing is that you need all the reference you can get for muscle structure. Look at anatomy books and a GREAT recourse for this kind of thing is to look at MMA fighters. They are about as ripped as you can get. Guys like Sean Shirk, Todd Duffee, Rampage Jackson, and Philipe Nover. Google those and you’ll get some good stuff.

Here’s what a 40 minute speed sculpt of my Alien looked like. Still going, it’s never enough.

If not, it’s okay, I just did it for fun. Ripped off the demo soldiers head, zsketched the hair. Took about an hour.

Another 1 hour sculpt. Made it the same as above. Can’t wait for the movie!! machete.jpg

Heres something I’m also working on besides animation and the predator. I will also make the interior with Zbrush for sure. What I did was block out the form using radial symmetry @ (5) in shadowbox. Then I did a quick pass with polish and flatten still with radial turned on. Then I retopo the thing still with radial symmetry. Everything took like 10 minutes to do. Then I took it into maya and added edge loops and cleaned it there. See for yourself.

Bottom line: pen tablet to model rims in a couple of minutes = fun! Or you could go with a mouse and click and extrude, merge verts, duplicate special, smooth mode back and forth = headache and a lot of .

Nice sculpts here :+1:
About re-topology, I can see the front faces only, did you managed the back too? ZB4 is great but re-topo is the worst ever.

michalis- Thankyou kind sir! For the rims I didn’t need the back faces because thats something I didn’t want to grow from a base mesh that wasnt a perfect circle. I took it into maya to finish it off with the easy stuff I can do there. I agree retopo is a pain but I spent so much time doing it that it became like a game of tetris to me.

“WHERE ARE MY WIFE AND DAUGHTER!?”
I still can’t wait for the movie!! I push the previous 1 hour speed sculpt to another 1 hour. Just a screen grab though so nothing fancy. Hell I might even make a full on machete. An hour a day goes a long way!

EDIT: SORRY FOR 2 POSTS GUYS HAD A PROBLEM WITH ATT FILE.

I can’t complain with the result but I hate how easy it was to make. I havent utilized alphas or even considered using them as much. I guess I haven’t accepted the power of alphas. I do now!

I like ya wolfy matey :).

Really great work there! I like your wolf pack  All they need is a dead caribou at their feet, ha ha!

Some sculpting on new retopologized mesh, this is not a pose, I left the mouth open to model and sculpt the inside. I made the skull only to understand the proportion of the mouth so it can close/open accurately.

get a load of your boy mike here;http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4rKlI42nSE
I made this from start to finish in about 5 hours, I had a base mesh already made but I unwrapped the uvs in maya for more unwrapping practice, since I’m not that great at it. This was more of an exercise for me because it was about learning how to do shading, lighting, rendering, hair in maya/mental ray using zb_disp_maps/ misss materials etc (that damned hypergraph!), I learned how to texture using spotlight and practiced some speedsculpting. I think it came out fair overall.
