Copy sub division information

Hi guys,

I have created some boots but I only want to take one of them into ZBrush to sculpt, but I also want them both in ZBrush in the same position (as they are now in max) and both high poly for some high poly renders.

Im fairly new to ZBrush, but I know if I import the second (mirrored) boot it will retain the same position as it is in 3dsmax now, but im not sure if there is anyway to copy the sub division from the first boot onto the second, hopefully that makes sense…

Any help would be immensly appreciated

NOT SURE IF I UNDERSTAND BUT YOU CAN CLONE THE FIRST BOOT AND THEN AND PROJECT TO THE SECOND ONE, you want to copy the details?

The problem with that is the second boot needs to be in the exact position I have set up in max, you can see in the sceenshot the laces line up with the details on the boots, so it would be very tricky to get the boot in exactly the right position if I clone, mirror and move it.

Is there anyway to project the detail from the first boot onto the second (which is a different sub-tool) even if the second boot is mirrored?

If the UVs are identical between the boots, you might be able to generate a displacement map from the first boot and then assign it to the 2nd boot.
I’m not sure about the exact steps, but I’m pretty sure it can be done.

Good luck.

Mike

thanks Mike, I will try that (fingers crossed)

have you try the mirror function?
