Converting bump map to normal map ?

hey, i was wondering if anyone knew how to convert a bump map to a normal map.

i looked at the Zmapper Documentation but i cant seam to find a way.

it only tells me how to include your bump map into your normal map.
but what i wanna do is greate a displacement map for general detail and a bumpl for finer detail i can do this but it seams that normal maps just look mutch better then a bump map so thats why i wonderd.

Short answer is - you can’t
A grayscale image (regardless of its bit-depth) can’t translate the normal color
values inherent in a normal map (tangent-based or otherwise) in order to
offset the sought-after normal direction.

hm but that seams kind of strange as you can include your bump map in the rest of the normal map

I’m not familiar with the displacement map process at all… but if all you want to do is turn a greyscale bump map into its normal map equivalent, try the nVidia Normal Map Filter plug-in for Photoshop.

sounds cool do you have a link in any case ? would be apreciated im gona look for it myself aswel

A Google search is your best friend under these circumstances - this is what I came up with…

Good luck, hope this fits the bill!

Oooh! I’d forgotten about the nVidia utility - sorry about that
