Constant crashing

I recently bought zbrush and I’ve been using the trial for a month and it worked great. Now that I’ve got the full version, for whatever reason, Zbrush is crashing absolutely constantly. I can’t even figure out how to describe it. It crashes sometimes when I try to save, when I’m masking, and all over the place. What could be going on? It is completely unuseable right now. I work for 15 minutes and then crash and lose 10 minutes of work.

Please help.

The trial was the full version. All it needed was the serial number to activate it. When you purchased, what did you do? Did you uninstall the trial and then install from the download? Which version number do you see when you look at the upper left corner of the ZBrush screen? Is it 3.0 or 3.1? Have you installed any plugins or made any changes to ZBrush since you purchased? Basically, we’re looking for something that might have changed between when you were using it under the trial and now.

I uninstalled the trial for whatever reason. But I reinstalled with the download at the link provided when I purchased. The version number is 3.1. I’ve downloaded several plugins. The plugins I installed were, Transpose Master, Zapplink, SubToolMaster, TurntablePlus, AdjustDFZSize, SmoothGroup Import, and ImagePlane. Are there known issues with any of these plugins? I used the smoothgroup import because I’m working on a non organic model at the moment. I used the recovery code to recovery the license file and then I activated via online.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I dont think its the version ( I agree with the mod tho, something had to have changed ). if you dont have the latest, its easy enough to update, check the download section off the site if you dont know already. its free

  1. Try reinstalling it, although I also doubt that is the solution, but its easy to do.

  2. Your ram may be bad. If you have multiple ram chips, I would try to only use one of them, if it still crashes, then try a different ram stick. Its not likely that they would all go bad at the same time.

  3. Your video card may be bad. I doubt this as well, normally you’d get graphical glitches or no video when this ocurs, but possible i guess.

Good Luck

I think it is related to importing objs with smooth groups with the plugin for that. I imported my meshes and appended them into a tool and I’ve been working about 30 minutes with no crashes so far. Is there something wrong with the import smooth groups and crease plugin?

I’m not aware of any such issue. You may want to post in that plugin’s thread (in the Utilities forum) so that the plugin author can get more info and possibly spot where the problem lies.
