Confusion regarding composing an image in Zbrush

I’ve been playing around in Zbrush for quite a while now, but some there’s something seemingly basic that I’m still trying to work out. I can’t really wrap my head around the best way to compose a full scene in zbrush. Let’s say I want to create a scene with a realistic sense of space/perspective (i.e. no 2.5d trickery apparent) with a character and a fairly detailed room around him/her…The technique that I’ve come up with so far is to hold shift when I move my camera around and lock it into the “front” view, then move and rotate my objects around to loosely compose my scene, and design the layout/composition with that view in mind, knowing that I can always relatively easily return to that view…it just starts to get a little cumbersome if I want to go in and work on an object that’s so far out of the unified space, or if I want to keep my character in multiple subtools and still have the freedom to move it around the scene.

I guess what I’m asking is, is it feasible to create a scene such as http://features.cgsociety.org/newgallerycrits/g90/490090/490090_1346230919_large.jpg

or

entirely in zbrush? or am I making things harder on myself by not making single objects in zbrush and transferring them out to a more “scene-oriented” 3d app?

Thanks for your time and attention!
Eric

making things harder on yourself IMO, some people are fine with Zbrush for a scene of that size. I would kill myself. Without more advanced visibilty options cough subtool groups cough you’re just asking for management hell. You can’t move multiple objects at once inside of Zbrush (at least not as easy as just selecting them and moving them)

There are no “real” lights inside of Zbrush either, so setting up proper lighting for a scene that complicated would be a nightmare, etc, etc. I think you see where this is going.

Thanks a bunch for chiming in. I wanted to make sure I wasn’t overlooking something before I opened my workflow up to other apps. It’s a shame. I love the renderer in ZBrush, and I still feel like I lose a little quality in my sculpts when I kick them out. Always more to learn I guess.

thanks again
