Confused polypaint/texturemap

Hello everyone,

I am slightly confused. Ha Ha quite the norm for me.lol

I have made a model which I have poly painted and I need to export it out into another 3d app.

I just looked at the information regarding uvs and texture maps and I tried the process but I cannot see the polypaint on my model its just chequered.

Could someone explain in idiot terms what I need to do?

I read the polypaint to texture map info and followed the instructions.:frowning:

Any help would be fab. Thank you

can you show what you mean by “checkered”?

Hi,

Thank you so much for replying:)

Doh, I think it has that uv checker texture on it.

Am I following the correct work flow?

Uv master to create uvs then texture from poly paint then export it out?

I think I have watched 2 many tutorials and books that tell me different things, so confused.:frowning:

I want to create a uv map and texture map from polypaint to export into another 3d app, do I need to include any other maps, as I am totally noobie to this part. lol

where are you getting the UV checker pattern from? Make sure you have your polypaint (colorize) turned on. Select a map size in UV map. Go to texture map,and new from polypaint. Make sure you have RGB turned on and at 100.

Thank you beta-Chanel, I shall try that today.

Thank you beta-channel for steering me in the right direction.

Could I ask another question if thats not too cheeky, I don’t want to take up your busy time?

It seems that everyone has trouble with uvs maps, I took mine into c4d r9 for a little test to see how it all worked and it was all skew-wiffed
so I thought I would try the process out in Maya (which I am extremely new to) using the goz button. Do you know where the textures file goes in Maya? I cannot find it? I have looked in all the logical places(but I am quite new to Maya, so that isn’t saying much)

Any help would be gratefully received

Can’t help ya on this one. I use Modo.

What do you mean by skew-wiffed?

Are they distorted?
Or not displaying correctly at all on your model?

Sorry, yes Skew-wiffed( distorted), I think I need to read up some more on how to right the distortions.

Thanks again for taking the time to reply.

sounds like a smoothed UV error. If you apply a smoothing type in Maya or C4D does that fix the problem or worsen it? If that “fixes” the problem you need to step down to your lowest subD level in Z. Turn off smoothUV in tool>geometry> step up to your highest level. Then bake your polypaint.

Aha! I will investigate that area right now, ugh I have been reading lots of info and watching lots of tutorials and my brain hurts now.

Thanks beta-channel I shall go and fiddle with the settings. I will let you know how I get on.
