Hi all, I am a brand new user and am having some serious issues. Issue after issue infact.
I built a simple wall piece in max. It’s literally a center wall piece with a end square piece on either end.
I used GoZ to go to Zbrush.
I divided the mesh what was MANY times, smoothed the edges, added some simple dinks and dents to the mesh and made it look a whole lot less like a mesh.
If I GoZ that item back to Max it breaks the mesh. The initial mesh has some weird shading issues, like when you have overlapping verts in Max.
So I thought to myself ok… If I use Zbrush to paint it then export an ‘obj’ and textures I should be able to get it back into max…
I made UV’s with UVmaster, and got some weird results when doing that too strangely… But I think I got there in the end by protecting and attracting the seams to the bottom.
I then found I couldnt ‘project’ any detail onto the mesh unless I had millions of poly’s, so I divided the mesh many times and spent a good couple hours painting.
I then tried GoZ again, and the same thing happened, it seemed to ‘break’ the low res mesh for some reason.
So I exported it (and it’s maps) with the Multi Map exporter (exporting the mesh too)
It didnt look ANYTHING like it did in Zbrush when I finally got max to load the texture. It was weirdly stretched, like it was using the wrong UV’s.
So I tried again. This time exporeting the model as an OBJ, and exporting the ‘polypaint’ UV’s copying them and then exporting. This didnt work, max complained of misaligned vertex points or something similar…
Now for a first project, this isn’t going well. I am not impressed.
So I have a couple of pointed questions…
-
What is the workflow from Max to Zbrush, then back again?
-
What could possibly be wrong with a simple 300 poly ‘wall’ made almost entirely from box’s that GoZ didnt like to transpot back and forth?
-
What ‘workflow’ should I use? It’s very confusing. If GoZ doesn’t work - which I now have my doubts on the very first attempt!
Should I model in max, export as OBJ. Then Import into Zbrush, Zremesh???, and then divide the mesh, or just divide the mesh and make my sculpts.
Then what? UVmaster First? Or after painting? Or maybe not at all… Maybe some other way works with Max?
As you can see I really have a thousand questions… So far nothing has worked and I’m feeling a little deflated as it all appears to be SO easy… One Click this, One click that… The problem is none of it seems to work!
Any help you can give is greatly appreciated, thank you.
