Concept Car

I’m not sure if you can describe the concept car video on zclassrooms as a tutorial. So I hope I’m posting this in the right section.

I don’t know how the artist gets the colors to show up so cleanly when he paints. I’m assuming my inability to paint like him might be contributing to a completely destructive sculpting style as opposed to the artists’.

The artist is using the layer brush to polypaint in the alien head video. I need to learn how to polypaint effectively with the layer brush. If we can get my layer brush to function like the videos, I’ll probably be able to replicate these tutorials a little better.

A picture paints a 1000 words. Please post a screenshot of what you think doesn’t look right or isn’t the same as the tutorial.

I have a supsicion that painting isnt working like the tutorial video because of the quadrilaters appearing after i make a unified mesh. These quadrilaters almost always appear when i make a unified mesh. If you can tell me what causes these quadrilaterals, maybe i can check something before i make a unified mesh from now on.

First of all, the Concept Car video was done in ZBrush 3.5R2 and you are probably using ZBrush 4. Quite a few things were changed in ZBrush 4. You have to keep that in mind. I’ve noticed this confuses a lot of people just starting out in ZBrush that are following tutorials.

Quadrilater? First time I have heard a polygon called a quadrilater.

Next, there was one thing in the Concept Car video that puzzled me also. How he could be painting a freehand stroke with the layer brush when he had DragRect stroke selected in the Stroke palette. Then again, it was Pixolator who was doing it  .

You don’t have to use the Layer brush to paint like he did. Using the ‘Pen A’ brush will give you same results he was getting.

Can you identify the cause of these quadrilaters appearing on the surface after a Unified Mesh make? I have made a unified mesh without them, but 90 percent of the time they appear.

What do you mean by quadrilaters? As far as I know, a “quadrilateral” is a four sided polygon. Every mesh created in ZBrush consists of four sided polygons (exluding poles). I don’t see any indication in the images you supplied of what you mean by “These quadrilaters almost always appear when i make a unified mesh.”

Also, please do not post your images somewhere where they have to be downloaded before they can be viewed. Please post them here. You are allowed up to a 500kb “jpeg” image. It’s easy, just click the ‘Upload Image or File’ button when you edit an existing post or create a new post.

What is the artist doing at around 3:20. He is manipulating the zspheres with the sketch tool selected.

Wow! Three replies and no confirmation that any of the help that was given to you has solved any of your problems, and not even a single, simple thank you. You are rude. One thing for damn sure, you’ll never get any help from me again.

I came to the conclusion that I’m not nearly as good as the artist with zspheres, so I didn’t really say anything. Sorry.:qu:
