Hi. I have some computer drafting experience but am getting interested in ZBrush for artistic work. Any tips on the best way to get started? A link to an on line tutorial perhaps? I am curious about how good of an artist I have to be…does Zbrush start you with basic shapes that you mold off of? Any help appreciated.
ok go to www.zbrush.com and watch the starter videos
my tips are
-
lean about the brush’s…start them up load the demo head and learn what you brushes do…setting and the difference between normal pain brush and the super cool lazy mouse function (press L on your keyboard)
-
use this forum. its filled with everything you need to learn this program…some are for z2 but the basics are there.
-
if you thinking this rogram iss crap and or you run out of inspiration

its not that hard to start leaning with out allot of cash…you can imagin it you can make it…in z3 …
go to the Dl section where you got your copy and Dl the other bits of Z3
little xtraz that make things really easy Zapplink ect
peace and happy brushing
3d art is a art the more you practice the better it gets like any art form
You have a few different ways you can approach learning zbrush.
But ALL of them require you to spend some time simply PLAYING with the program, mucking about, making changes, undoing, redoing, and going wild with the lump of virutal clay that is zbrush 3d.
If you want to paint pictures, that is a different kettle of fish to learn to fry…
Start with the Z Classroom just to get a quick handle on the power at your fingertips.
I also recommend you watch (and follow along) the videos produced by CannedMushrooms (Jason Welsh). They are inspirational as well as informational.
You Tube still has a few ZBrush tutorials, but they are disappearing at a rapid rate, due to copyright issues (Pixologic should remedy this!), so when you have some time, go there and watch what you can, while you can…
Run Scripts. Read the online documentation about how to run scripts (or watch a video). Make SURE your scripts are for ZBrush 3.1, or else they may not run correctly. Scripts will walk you through a tutorial within ZBrush, step by step as you click through. A great way to learn.
Read through these forums, tedious as it may be. There are some priceless gems in the most mundane of threads, and the more you read about zbrush, te more comfortable you become with it.
Take the advice of some of the zbrush pros, and try to make something everyday, if only 15 minutes of sculpting and/or painting.
Study, learn, and practice using z-spheres. They are the key to quick-forming.
This advice alone, should keep you truly busy for at least the next 4-6 days, at which time, you should be starting to feel comfortable with the application.
Best of success to you!
