combining subtools

is there a way of ‘combining’ subtools, or sticking them together?

I know I can merge them, but the situation is - I’ve a simple object- a sword; made of the blade, handle, and a wrapping around the handle. the wrapping has been divided several times for detailing, but the rest doesn’t really need the excessive polycount so I’ve left them low poly.
the whole thing looks fine put together, but I can’t move it as one object - I have to move the elements separately. Merging knocks the wrapping down to it’s early low poly state and I lose the details and uv’s.

I just need to move it as one object, but keep the elements separate…

transpose master.

doesn’t that just create a low poly proxy?

Not “just”. It combines your subtools into a low poly mesh, so you can do exactly what you asked about, but when you’re done moving the mesh around, it splits the subtools apart again exactly like they were but in their new positions.

I’ve tried transpose master and it seems no different to the standard transpose – all my subtools still move independently…??

*** check – I got it now – lasso selection and all that - cheers dudes**
