Colossus

that stencil is in realtime. you dont need to use projection master for it

Thanks so much for showing your whole process like that. If it was me I probably would have tried modeling the whole thing symmetrically and then posing it, but your way seems much better. I think it made the end result that much more interesting too! Beautiful!

yeah, i just intended this thing to be a concept sculpt, so there was no need for symmetry in this case. considering he is non symmetrical to begin with, that just made it that much clearer to me, that i wouldnt need that ability. plus, its just good practice

I worked with Niwa-san, the man who designed that colossus. An amazingly skilled and fast illustrator, he’s now at work on the sequel to Shadow: the pre-production stuff looks fantastic!

wicked!. lucky guy.

just thought i would say that i only loosely based it on boss 1, not on any particular colossus in the game.

bro I know this is your thread but I’ve been modeling a Colossus too. Its the 6th Colossus from the game

nice, i like it. now for zbrush to get a hair system in like what you got there

thanks guys.

Oh my you are so good. you seem to be already a master on zbrush3! I love the way you use the subtool to extract parts and the positionning tool seem to be so cool. Since am not a big fan of rigging in maya and at bindskin this make me dream! Very impressive anatomy skills and modelling skills too. I like also the way you use the alpha without stencil and projection master. :+1: :+1:

haha yeah, i wanted to give him somewhat of a dumb puppy face. i mean thats how some of them were in the game. you essentially went around killing innocent puppies.

The video is truly awe inspiring and hypnotic, thank you!!!

10000000 Thanks for your video! :+1: :+1:
Amazing works!

I LOVED the game and your fanart is great!
And thanks a lot for the video ,it was very insightful! (ive never used the flatten brush for modeling, mostly clay brush )

btw
how many total polygons was that scene after you finished modeling?

p.s.
if you liked shadow of the colossus, then you have to check out ICO!115.jpg

I don’t suppose you can make a smaller and, perhaps, faster version of this vid. 56 minutes seems a bit long and 227 meg is a bit large. If you could skip a few frames and make a version that’s under 40 meg, that would be great.

Cheers,
Revanto :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks Martin, both your post and your video, the best time 56min consumend for me!
I also thanks because taking your top skill and masterart level you have the time to share, really share your tecnhique.
I am impressed by all the Beta tester images but more impressed of the LACK OF SUPPORT FROM THEM in sharing tips, if you ask some of them in PM they answer have no time!
But is an excuse because Z3 make possible when you are working CAN RECORD SIMULTANEOUSLY what you are doing.
That make your tutorial more important and relevant! and also tell us about your human quality:+1:

Thanks so much for your video, Martin
It’s so inspirational to see such fluid and masterly sculpting in action, as is an insight into your workflow in general.
I can see that there is a LOT of potential in the brushes / macros from your use of the ā€˜flatten’ brush, and will take some time to look into that

Great, work, and thanks again for your time in putting this together :+1:

Chris

I really like the details on the creature’s armor. Makes it look very epic and threatening.

Hey Martin,

Cool vid. It’s great to see the way other artist work. I am just curious as to how you set your brush to create multiple instances of itself while you were sculpting the pillar-like structure on the creatures leg. I tried to check out the settings you had on screen, but couldn’t find nething out of the ordinary.

It was explained somewhere earlier in the thread. I think there is a setting in the deformations tab for doing this.

Awesome sculpt. The video was mind blowing. You’re an imaginitive sculptor, also you’re mastery of the new tools, brushes, workflows, topology and rigging is an inspiration. I literally could not stop watching the video. I think if it was any shorter, it wouldn’t convey the power of the tool and your work.
Kudos. Thanks, made my day! :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1:

Only a quote from Dexter’s Laboratory I can say

Oh, boy! Oh, boy! Oh, boy! Oh, boy! Oh, boy!

Martin, it’s a real inspiration to spend more time with zbrush, and less with the technical side of 3D…I’m almost considering to drop my 3d pack…and I think, if I’ll be more expert in Zbrush I’ll do that…

Very cool. Nice to see your workflow. Very insightful.

Cyborgguineapig: Hey dude thanks for letting me know. It’s actually in the cgtalk thread, but good looking out neways.

Once again thanks for sharing your work Martin.

Koncept,
Do you have a link to that cgtalk thread?
I saw them use the same idea in the ZB3 teaser video with the computer keys and some strap decorations, so I was wondering the same thing?!

Thanks for the vid! great work!

hyper1:

If the link doesn’t take you directly there its’ on page 3 of the thread:)

Wow, many thanks to you Martin, that was a great vid!
Please texture him!
