Colors changing with col>txr

This is my first post here, so I hope this is the right place to post this. And I’m still pretty new to Zbrush, so I apologize is this sounds dumb, but we gotta learn somehow.

Basically here’s what I’m doing: I created a basic model in Maya, import into Zbrush, subdivide, and create a more detailed model. Then I decided to start painting textures. So I set the material to MatCap White Cavity, Disable UVs, paint, paint… And I like what I got so I decide to export the texture for Maya. I enable UVs, bring the subdivs down to 1 import original OBJ to get my UVs back. Then I create a new white texture at 4kx4k and hit the col>txr button.
The problem I’m having is that it looks like the colors I’ve painted are being affected by the orignal color of the new texture (in this case white). But it looks that way no matter what color I choose, whether it’s black grey or white. Is there something I’m missing??

Thanks in advice for your help.

Show a screenshot of the problem, please. Make sure that the ZBrush version number is visible in the screen so we have a better idea of how to help.

Any polypainting you do is going to display blended - sort of a multiply or screen effect - with the built in color of any material or matcap you choose. The pure RBG info of your paint is preserved though. You get get the best sense of what your true painted texture will look like if you use the Flat white material. I use skin matcaps sometimes to get a sense of what my color map might look like when I use it later in a proper mental ray skin shader.

It’s fine to paint with a matcap on. Just remember to cycle through a few of them from time to time to see your paint under different conditions, and to check it out under Flat color.

make sure rbg is on and at 100 percent when you hit col>txr

If rgb is a lower value than 100 then you’re applying the colors of the entire map at that percent. That’s why the white or gray looks like it is “showing up” because it is…kinda.

Wow, I feel pretty stupid right now. Switching it over to flat color mat did the job. I thought I had already tried that though. Shrug. Oh well.
Thanks for help guys, I know where to come the next time I make a stupid mistake
