coloring, importing ztl/obj

sorry for this being my first post, just cant take the tutorial anymore…been watching and reading for few weeks probably 20 hours worth of tutorial and realizing not really helpful since most of them don’t tell nothing just show how to do it.

question about painting… i do as told select all, but once i click on polypaint - colorize my sculpt gets orange color which is not selected in the color box. sometimes i get a chance to paint, but not really what im looking for since my sculpt has to be black and white. question is: i like gorillablack matcap and a white shiny mat clap is there a way of mixing them on the sculpt and using them both on the same ? or at least how to paint in black and keep the detail visible or give it more shine…tho i want mat black.

next question: i want to import a sneaker and seems i cant get it right, so

  1. how to import it?
  2. how to move it to the right place?
  3. i have only one right side sneaker Obj how to reverse it to have a pair?

ohh and how to fill holes that re meshing gives you?

thanks for help…

  1. how to import it? tool.import
  2. how to move it to the right place? transpose line
  3. i have only one right side sneaker Obj how to reverse it to have a pair? tool.deformation.mirror or zplugin.subtoolmaster.mirror or tool.geometry.modify topology.mirror and weld

ohh and how to fill holes that re meshing gives you? what?

thanks i will try again today, ZRemeshing or dynamesh when i did that for a jersey it re meshed with holes in it… so now i want to fill it and the only way i actually know how i could try to do it is with pinch brush…tho it gives me more problems then it solves, so is there and easier way.

  1. how to import it? tool.import
dont remember how it is called…tho the stuff you have in the subtool… for example i have body, jersey and shorts and when i import a new obj it deletes or hides selected one…how to avoid that or how to bring it back and best how to import it as a forth in the list…

sorry for all the question, im new to this and honestly this program looks more complicated then it could be or should be, but can i get and answer to the coloring problem im having? and is it possible to have a matclap colors mixed and saved as actual colors of the sculpt?

you may mean “append”. import all your meshes one at a time. then select one to work on. in the subtool palette you will find “append”, click on that and select a mesh. it will be added to the tool you are working on.

It sounds like what you want for importing is zplugin.subtool master.multi-append

As for your coloring issue, I’m not sure what it is you’re trying to achieve. A picture says a thousand words.

Coloring:
Two matcaps in one sculpt? Main black and second white…
My whole sculpt has to be b&w. If i color it with black it has no detail visible at all… and its hard… matcaps has all i want detail and color.
What i want it is to select white matcap mask parts i want to keep white and then change the rest to gorrila black i think, but after masking when i change it masked part changes too. I made it right once so i know its possible, but have no idea how and i had it masked ugly so i wanted to edit and ran out of ram.

You can fill different polygroups with different materials all on the same mesh. Select the polygroup you want filled so the rest are hidden then fill it the usual way. Select a different polygroup the same way and repeat.

i finally got to paint my model, but now i got another problem (im trying to solve it for few days now). im painting my model with matcaps and all is just fine if i paint a single subtool. problem i got is this: ZBrush Document.jpg using materials or single color it turns out the same…soft alphas dont help, different brushes dont help. How to get soft or more line like edges when painting two diferent colors on a single subtool? ps. i got subtool masked where i want to change the color (blurred the mask, sharpened shrank whatever… nothing same result all the time) filling white and the trying to paint the edges with black is the same thing. am i doing something wrong with paint setting? cause i saw tutorial where people paint it very soft and high detail?

And another thing… HOW TO REDUCE poly count without loosing detail? right now on this sub i got 9mil poly count which it terrible cause my zbrush keeps crashing all the time. got 4 subdivision and i want to leave the fourth one, tho its the one that has the most polys…

prety much would be finished my first model for animation if not these two task… paint looks ugly so i got to fix it. poly count just doesnt let me do anything else, task requiring more ram crash the software and exporting or importing it to any other program crashes it as well … (dont have much ram to begin with, 3.6 usable on my laptop)

thanks

Got sorted with the polygon count reduced it from 6.5 mil
to 1.5… and the rest of subtools too so instead of almost 10mil i got only 1.8 left
Took tons of crashes and reducing ram usage in the computer i was able to do it with decimation tool.
Now i got the paint left to sort out or i might try it in maya tho i dont think it will be easier.
