col>txr and subtool problem

please forgive me if this question is basic, i’m still learning zbrush.

i have a model from maya that consists of about 45 pieces which i combined into a single mesh. i brought it into zbrush, ran a grpSplit and began sculpting and painting. i need to reimport my original base mesh to regain my UVs. but, when i merge all my subtools i lose all my division levels and end up with a very high res mesh.

is there a way to create a single color map short of creating separate objs in maya and making a single map per tool?

To create a single color map, you’re going to need to import the model and divide to have as many polygons as your texture has useable pixels. Append that to your painted mesh, turn on Draw>Rgb and use Tool>SubTool>Project All to copy the paint from the source mesh. Now you can convert that paint to texture.
