Clip left-handed keyboard to tablet?

Has anyone tried attaching a left-handed gaming keyboard to a Wacom tablet to provide easier access to keyboard shortcuts? I’m thinking of a mini-keyboard like this: Amazon.com

In my case, my keyboard sits to my right, so it’s very awkward to use it for keyboard short cuts. I can sorta put it underneath my tablet, but that’s clumsy too. I suppose I could put a table to my left to hold my traditional keyboard, but it still wouldn’t be easy to type on it.

Anyone have thoughts on a left-handed keyboard with a Wacom tablet?

Hello @Grotius

I have not tried this.

Please also note that I am not endorsing a product --I have no position on which tablet hardware you should use. However, Wacom does make an ExpressKey remote for this purpose which expands the functionality of the express keys, and allows them to be used wherever you prefer to keep your hand.

Good luck! :slightly_smiling_face:

Thanks for your reply! Yes, I’ve looked at the ExpressKeys product. I’m not sure it’s exactly what I want, as it depends on Bluetooth, and I’m not sure my ancient PC supports that. Also, it gets somewhat mixed reviews, and it’s a lot more expensive than a left-handed keyboard. But I’ll think on it.

Thanks again!

Again, not endorsing anything, but it doesn’t require Bluetooth. It is wireless, but comes with its own receiver you plug into a USB port. Just something to consider.

If you make use of other 3d software that also supports it, the Space Mouse might be a good investment. The higher end models have an ample number of programmable buttons that can serve as a keyboard replacement, and has a left/right hand neutral design that can sit comfortably on either side of the tablet. It would also provide unique navigational options in ZBrush not otherwise available.

Good luck!

Thank you for your further reply. Ah, I didn’t realize the Express thing comes with a USB receiver – excellent! I might try it in that case. Also, the Space Mouse looks very cool.

I think another approach might just be to buy a smaller tablet. I’m using an old Wacom that’s two feet wide. I often have to move my arm a foot or more to reach a ZBrush menu. And, more importantly for this discussion, it’s hard to use the thing and my keyboard at the same time. Ideally I’d fit both on my lap, as I like to sit with my feet elevated.

Anyway, many thanks for your super helpful replies.
