cleankids sketchbook

Hi everyone, I decided I would make a sketchbook thread since I am doing alot more sculpting now. I figure I should post more often and try to get more feedback along the way. Lets see what else… I am 24 years old I go to Gnomon and I want to do character art for video games when I finish school in 2012. So here is just the basic base for my new character. Shes going to have alot of hard surface parts because I am just now learning about the workflow and the clipping brushes and I am really excited to use them for armor. cheers!

crits are always welcomed!

The base mesh you started with looks like it needed just a lot more work as the edge loops do not look consistently equally spread therefore resulting in the boobs looking the way they are compared to the rest of the body

Hey Sparky3d Yea its still pretty low rez I have alot more sculpting to do and eventually ill resurface it I just wanted to get in the habit of posting more regularly so thats why I put it up. Thanks

That’s good because posting more means more feedback which then makes you a better artist

Excellent work, as always. I’m very impressed with your anatomical work, and I can see you’ll only get better with time.

The quality of your work has grown considerably recently. As a fellow artist, I’m interested in how that happened, especially with female anatomy.

Don’t worry about the base mesh, by the way. Certain parts will always naturally lose resolution as you sculpt. It’s not worth much consideration until you’ve reached a subdivision limit in zbrush. Then a simple retopo fixes everything.

that girl looks sick man. love the gesture

@Sparky3d yes I agree :slight_smile:

@MagmaPixel Thanks man. What helped me a ton was taking a traditional sculpture class actually. I took one from John Brown he teaches at Gnomon. And he also has dvds available where he goes over the same information. I highly recommend them, he has a sculpting the femme fatale dvd which is awesome.

@trudeja Thanks glad you like it. Ill have some more updates soon!

Interesting!

Forgive me if my question is stupid but I don’t know much about 3D graphics and I only own ZBrush (which I’m not really good at yet).

How did you make the initial mesh (the one on the left)?

Thanks in advance.

It’s either made using Zbrush Zspheres or was made in a 3d application such as Maya or 3ds Max

Hey ZioRiP That basemesh like Sparky3d said can be modelled in maya or max or any software like that. If you want to use it you can download it for free here at http://www.thegnomonworkshop.com/ under a freebies drop down tab. You have to sign up with an email first then u can download it and other assets too. They also have sculpting videos as well.

Thanks to both.
cleankid, it was just what I was looking for.

Unfortunately I am not able to use any 3D software and I see that the zspheres topology is different from the one in the image above.

I’ll subscribe to gnomon

Bye

Yeah zspheres is very different and takes time getting used to, the majority of sculpts are made from base meshes brought in from another program, and there are plenty of them going around

I know that topology shouldn’t be so important on ZBrush, but I would like to work with the best topology from the beginning and unfortunately I cannot create any model by myself with 3rd party softwares as I am not able

Thanks for the informations!

Heres an update I did a lot more work to the face and some minor adjustments to the body. Thanks to Branduarte for his matcap its pretty cool! Crits always welcome!

It’s looking good!

i really like how this has progressed, fantastic work

This is looking great so far, no major crits can I give. Can’t wait to see where you go with her!

Nice! Keep it up:+1:

Hey thanks everybody,
Heres another update. This is just the blockout and concepting of the forms. She is an scout character that explores new worlds and can glide with her mech suit. Still have more blocking out to do but I thought I would post an update.

Crits are welcome of course!
