clean hard ornament modelling?!

Hi,

I´m still learning Zbrush. And i´ve got some problem. I want to make some good clean hard ornament on the elves helmet. But I havent found the right way. I´ve try it with masking and extract function but my polycount is to high and Zbrush closed.
On the shot I´ve taken the standard brush und masking function. I don´t much like it.
There are a better way?

I hope you understand what I mean. Thx!

Make a subtool. Insert or append as needed.

It may be easier to stamp in that kind of detail with a precise alpha you’ve created in photoshop or zbrush, rather than freehand. Take a screenshot of the helmet at set angles, and create the alpha design to fit it, or alternatively, use ZApp link. Projection Master can be really useful for positioning alpha stamps.

As Doug says, you can always make the ornamentation a real physical object and a separate subtool, so you can adjust it without affecting the helmet. Then you can merge it all together.

I also would think Alphas would be the easiest way to do this. You could then group the edges and use the likes of Edge Loops to get the edges sharp. Lots of ways to do it, no doubt you will be able to experiment and find what works best for you.

Hey,

I guess it works with alpha  but now whats wrong with the color? hmm…

And what do you think? Is the polycount to high?

It’s way too high if it has to flex while being animated. It’s not too high for a render inside ZBrush. Is your computer gagging?

Yes, it thwart my workflow. Have an old computer sadly.
I search for a good way between slowly computer and a good end product for my portfolio.
It doesn´t make it easierer.

And I think the ornaments just all the little details make the product special.

so, the color process is now better but I don`t no why?

Still I little question. Gives a shortcut for moving the alpha brush position when I draw it on the object?

Painting and applying materials can be done at the same time or on an either or basis. Check your stroke type, sounds like it could be DragDot.

Hi Doug,

Thank you, I think a take stroke :).

I have little advances^^

Next problem: how can I make solid alpha masked? my alpha masked always with blur.
How can I fix it?

… need solid (hard edges) alpha masked for spliting tool, texturize and polypainting…

…is going well
