Cintiq 21 ux Issue - Inverted Sub and Add brush mode - Still not solved?

Hi,

I have to come back with a old issue, discussed 3 years ago, but the work around does not work for me…

I have a 3 monitor setup, 2 “standard” monitors and a Cintiq 21 UX in the middle.
I use a wacom intous 3 to switch between the 3 monitors. If I paint with the Intous 3 everything works fine.
If I paint with the Cintiq 21 UX, the ADD brush mode acts like SUB and vice versa. If I press SHIFT and paint, the model gets sharper…

First I set the Cintiq as the primary monitor, but that does not work for me. Then I unplugged the 2 “standard” monitors and restarted only with the Cintiq, but I had the same problem again.

Here is the link to the old post:

  • Windows 7 Professional on a Boot Camp Mac.
  • ZBrush 4R4
  • Newest wacom driver: 6.3.3-4

UPDATE:
I found out something: When I go to “start -> all programs -> wacom tablett -> wacom tablett presetting file Utility”, there I klick “My presets -> Remove”. Now I have to redo some settings (Middle and right klick on the pen buttons and so on) and the issue is SOLVED. BUT: When I restart zBrush it’s messed up again. I saved my Settings, so I just have to reload them. But I really don’t want to reload my wacom setting every time I start zBrush…

Does anybody had the same issue?

Many Thanks!

we have the same problem here at the office. most of us use our cintiques as our 2nd monitor.

anyway, simple fix

set zbrush inside of your start bar. mine is 3rd icon on the bar. Window+3 will launch zbrush (number indicates location)

use the hotkey you set up to launch Zbrush and it will work fine. Not really a fix, but at least it’s a workaround.

Thanks for your answer beta_channel. Your simple fix unfortunately does not worked for me.
But a friend of mine “fixed” it this way:

He saved a preset with the correct wacom preference settings. Then a simple batch opens ZBrush and load the presets AFTER ZBrush is opend up.

The .bat file looks like this:

@echo off
start “” “C:\Program Files (x86)\Pixologic\ZBrush 4R4\ZBrush.exe” %*
call “C:\Users\Public\Linus.wacomprefs”

I still have to click “OK” 2 times, but it’s still better than a inverted brush…

ZBrush will regard whichever end of a tablet pen you start with as the ‘ZAdd’. (In other words, if I start ZBrush and first touch the interface with the eraser end of my Wacom pen then that will be ZAdd.)

Not sure that this will help but I thought I’d mention it.

Hi guys. Sorry. Very bad english here.

My solution

1 - I start Zbrush with a mouse or a Intuos pen (I have a intuos 3) in the first monitor. (Cintiq ON).
2 - I switch Cintiq to the first monitor (with the default first botton of Cintiq 21UX).
3 - Drag Zbrush to Cintiq with Cintiq pen - maximize Zbrush.
4 - The pen is running ok now, with add/sub/smooth
5 - Save config

No more problems here. Zbrush starts now in Cintiq and the pen is ok.

My unsolved problem is that Cintiq pen click don’t work in the first monitor, but I use the erase side to run Zbrush, or I use my Intuos pen.

Hi again,

First, thanks for all your replys.

I realised that my “solution” that I posted before, just messed up the wacom settings and I loose the pressure sensitivity of the pen on my Cintiq.

But your answers brought me to this: When I start zBrush with the pen on my Intous 3, it works fine on the Intous 3 and add and sub are inverted on the Cintiq. But when I use the other end of the pen on the Cintiq, the eraser, it works correct. And when I start zBrush with the pen on my Cintiq, it works fine on the Cintiq and add and sub are inverted on the Intous 3. And then, when I use the other end of the pen on the Intous 3, it works correct there.

So this is my new temporary solution, just starting zbrush from the Cintiq. But I still cant switch between my two tablets.

Maybe this helps some others…

Could it be that zBrush just has a problem with more than one wacom device?
