Hi everyone
Thought I’d just try the new displacement in C4DR9. Does a great job. These are just standard displacement settings, It could be tweaked more. Works a treat and Cinema now supports the 16bit map and 50% grey as 0%displacement
Yess !
C4D rocks with ZBrush !
Easy simple load Object and ind the displacement load displacementmap.
Looks real good :
I agree, it looks very good. Nice and crisp, as in all the details are there and no artifacts.(except maybe for the ear JackMcRip)
Could you also post CPU used and render time?
P4 3Ghz HT + 1GB Ram
Rendertime 30sec.
SubPolygonDivision=5
Thanks.
Would you guys mine sharing your settings and workflow? I’m debating buying ZBrush and I’m also a Cinema user. Is the workflow really simple? How is it working in Z.
Any info you can provise would be greatly appreciated…
Hi Bobzilla
It works beautifully and this is from someone who is still using C4D 8.2
I can’t wait to upgrade to 9, then oh yes yes then…
My workflow is currently being transformed by ZB2, I am finding the best way to go is to create a basic low poly topology friendly object in C4D (but even that won’t be necessary after the next free release of ZB), export an obj into ZB to add details and texture maps then back into C4D for rendering. I wonder if bodypaint might be better suited sometimes but then bodypaint is out of my price range, has far less features for £ when compared, whereas ZB is damn cheap for what you get. This is seriously (honestly) the best software I ever bought, I don’t use pencil and paper anymore because its just as quick and easy to visualise stuff in 3D with ZBrush.
I humbly suggest that if you buy it you will never regret it. Its the only thing for a long time that has made me LOL at my computer screen when I discover new stuff (like for eg, check out the depth brush with custom alpha maps in projection master for creating detail - its just crazy!)
Ho hum
A fan

That’s quite an endorsement, Sav! I’ve downloaded the 1.55b demo and Practical Guide. I guess I should get cracking on that!
I wish there were a version 2 demo, though…
Thanks for all the info.
Bob
One other quick question…do you import the .obj BACK into Cinema when you’re done adding detail in Cinema or just the displacement and/or bump maps?
Thanks…
Well I do tend to get vocal about things I like
Its a shame there’s no ZB2 Demo yet, the difference between it and 1.55 is pretty huge, but look out for it.
I usually do import the 1st obj back into cinema, because ZB has assigned it UV Coords associated with the textures/bumps (AUV tiles by default I think). But after that, as long as you’re not adding or subtracting geometry (and therefore not changing the UV coords) you can use the same mesh in Cinema but tweak the maps further.
Cheers
Sav
Hello,
I have a problem with the cinema 4D Sub-Polygon-Displacemant.
My Software: Zbrush2, Cinema4D R9 Studio.
The rendered object has ugly mesh?
Is here someone, who knows this problem??
Are your sure it’s still a 16 bit greyscale image?

You are getting “stair stepping” from converting your texture from 8 bit to 16 bit. Look here for an explanation.
Ryan
I choose 16bit, 8bit, grayscale, rgb, …, but it doesnt work!
