Chris Curtis Sketchbook (nudity)

hey chris,

nice start so far! nice to hear you make a new nitrate. i am sure it will be as cool as your first! its a cool character.

one little crit: i think the arms are little bit to short… but i am not an expert…
keep going

Hey Captain, great start! Will this be a completely new Nitrate?

Nice nice!! Keep going!!

I think there’s nothing really to add to gregoconn’s comments, so I’ll just say, seconded.

Top notch stuff though fella.

Loo-kin’ good! :+1: !

Thanks for the input guys! Just what I’m looking for. Much appreciated!

Moni, yes I’m going more or less back to the beginning with this. I always felt i could have done something better and now I’m trying to do just that

Not really had a great deal of time to get going on this. Done some further refinements and a bit of a costume idea paintover. Again, C&Cs welcome.

Hey Captain,

Great improvements, still a bit to go though. I’d suggest staying on the bas for now.

I can see you’ve made some tweaks with the head but there is still a ways to go. The examples that you posted are all very gorgeous, even the tough looking one. You need to spend a little time studying what makes a gorgeous face. The cheeks, cheek bone, mouth, eyes ears, everything is important. I tried to highlight a few features here:

facefeatures.jpg

The back of her neck should be smoothed over. Although there is a bit of a dip and bump at the medulla oblongata, the rest of the nack should be smooth unless the muscles are under a lot of strain. Her back needs a bit of proportion work. It looks like you have some of the features there that you want, but it all needs to be tweaked. The muscles on her lower back are too thin and the back doesn’t seem to ‘flow’ into the dip where her spin is.

I hope this helps. Keep going man, I really want to see this one look great.

Cheers

g

gregoconn: Thanks again for your input. I’ve not really touched the face/head yet but the info you have given me will be very useful when I do. I’ll take a look at her lower back too

This looks very good. Clean work! I really should model a female anytime soon again. Keep it up like that.

Thanks Moni, would be cool to see another female sculpt from you.

Some further refinements. I have worked a little on the head and face. Even had the chance to use GoZ to switch to Maya for the mouth and eyes. That thing is a godsend, trust me! Also done some overall tweaks

Hey Captain

Great update! It’s really starting to look nice. You probably think I’m giving a lot of crit, but the reason I’m so interested in your project is that I’m currently doing a female piece myself and am trying to study pretty hard what makes the final image beautiful. Unfortunately due to work and other commitments I don’t have much time to work on my own piece so having a close look at your is helping me so much I can’t describe.

Anyway. Here is a quick comparison between your face and a girls face which I think looks gorgeous.

comparison.jpg

Look closely at the shape of the eyes and the eyebrows. See how the eyes come in nice and sharp towards the nose and the shame is a little more almond like. The bottom lid doesn’t dip down quite as far as yours does. The jaw is something I always have trouble with too, but I’ve found that the most beautiful wemon’s faces seem to have a squarish, but still femanine jaw. You can see what I mean in the comparison.

Your proportions look pretty good. Maybe the shape of your ears could use a little work. They seem a bit ‘thin’ at the moment, also her bottom lip seems to be a little thin in comparison to her top lip. Finally I think you should cut a little deeper btween the bottom lip and the chin. Have a look at the harsh shadow between chin and the lip onthe reference. Also note how it gradients away.

If you find my crit isn’t really helping let me know, but this is probably helping me as much as it is you so I thought I would share

Finally I just wanted to make a quick comment about her shoulders/shouder blades. There is still something not quite right there. Almost like the shoulderblades are too far back. She still looks like she is slouching slightly I think it’s most noticeable in her back 45’.

Hope this helps!

G

gregoconn: Welcome aboard! Your crits are most helpful. Shame you don’t have the time to create something yourself. I find it pretty difficult too so I know how you feel. Comparing the face to the one you have posted, I can see mine looks pretty weird! Although it was quite late when I did it. I did plan to gather reference of a face and work from that, more than likely an actress. Not decided who yet. I did like the Nitrate 1.0’s face as it was attractive yet had that ‘badgirl’ feel to it and is something I want to keep for this one. The one you have posted is quite angelic. I keep going back to those scapulas too. I agree something is not right there.

So if anyone has any suggestions for that ‘beautiful-bitch’ look of the face I would be most grateful

I thought I’d post some more progress images. She’s looking a bit more human now. I have been researching faces and can’t quite find one I like enough to use entirely, so I thought I’d just make it from the best bits of the ones I liked. Will probably change it as I go along.

Good updates, Chris  A few comments:

  • make her neck a little thinner and a tad longer, unless you want her to be a little beefy looking.

  • make sure her clavicles have the appropriate s-shape from the top view.

  • shoulder blades look stuck on there, blend them in some more. rake brush is good for that.

Captain this is really starting to look nice. The time and effort that you are clearly putting in to this is well reflected in how your sculpt is starting to look.

I have to agree with dustin. I actually think the whole upper chest area could use a bit of work. I couldn’t find some nice reference, but I’d look for a upper torso of a female and compare. I think you will find your clavicles cut up a bit too sharply. I don’t know exactly, something looks awkward there and is worth a look.

Keep going man, if you keep working like you are this piece is going to be fantastic when your done.

This looks great, Captain. Great job! I love the clean design and her face looks much better now.The only thing I dont like are the boots but thats a personal taste thing. Keep going!

It’s looking pretty sweet there captain!! It’s developing nicely! :+1:

Yep, looking awesome!! Keep it up!!!

dustinbrown: Thank you! I’ll take a look at those things. Good call on the clavicle. It does have the ‘S’ shape but it plateaus off at the top and looks a bit unrealistic.

gregoconn: Thanks again for your support! The chest does need some more work. Certainly the clavicles. Also where the pectoralis goes into the deltoid, and also the sternum and ribs above her breasts.

Moni-Poroni: Thank you! I’m surprised you don’t like the boots. I remember you saying you did like them in the contest and I thought I’d keep a very similar design this time around. So what kind of boots do you think would be better?

spimmy: Thank you!

dustbin1_uk: Thank you!

Youre right -- Ive searched in the Nitrate thread and I said -super cool boots.
I know why --the “N” on the sole is a really great and cool idea (its not clearly understandable that I was talking about the"N", though). Dont get me wrong, please, I dont think the boots are ugly -- its just a personal taste (from a modeling standpoint they are looking good and I still love the “N” – would be cool if you`d sculpt it again :)).
Her feet just look a little too chunky in those boots (I hope this is the right word) and also a little big.

High heels look great but would they fit to the rest of her style?
If Nitrate would be a real person I doubt that she`d wear shoes like this?

http://i8.ebayimg.com/07/i/000/c3/6c/81a9_10.JPG

I think she would need to be able to run QUICK and erm, not really possible with shoes like that.
Its always easy to say "I dont like that" but it`s hard to give a useful critique.:frowning:

Maybe it would look more elegant if youd make the heels a tad higher Heres a pic:

The shape of the feet looks really great IMO.

Lookin’ good, Cap’n! :+1: I’d just say you might wanna relax the neck and angle on the clavicles and tighten up the mid-torso a bit.
