Chinese Dragon

This is a WIP i am working on.
I am having trouble making alpha brushes that dont look low resolution when applied to the model. Any tips on this would be great. The model is high resolution but the alpha is jagged when applied to the surface.

Thanks Everyone
Jack

Quite a few alpha tutorials exist on the forum, One of the newest techniques is to paint the mask right on your model and affect it that way, either with a brush, some kind of inflation, etc., with some really great effects.

Check out the bird in this thread and the tutorial…

I would appreciate some help please.
I am trying to get a good workflow between zbrush and blender.
I took a model created in zbrush with zspheres (the dragon) Then I export the lowest level .obj file for UV unwrapping in Blender. I then re-import the new .obj with the UVs back into zbrush so that my model can go into blender with good normals and displacement.

The problem is when I re-import the obj into the lowest level of the model, I get this crazy twisting/mixing of the mesh. Does anyone have any ideas of how to approach this problem or to get around it? (see image)

Thank you all very much.

hey Jack999,

it’s possible that some normales of the importet object or some normales of the zbrush-object are inverted. I had this problem too sometimes. In Blender you can re-invert them in edit-mode, hit ctrl + n. hope this helps

Train22,
Thank you for the idea. I tried recalculating the normals, but it didnt work.
I think I might be using incorrect settings in either my export from zbrush or import into blender or both

I’ll keep at it, thank you
Jack

To Train22 and anyone else having problems such as the one above.
Here is a link to a video tutorial that shows how to fix this problem.

I have not tried this yet, but I assume that it is accurate.

Thank you very much to cannedmushrooms for making this great video!

Well that scene is pretty good.

A suggestion then, at some point return to this character and start from scratch. I think you will find amazing improvements.

It’s a good process in general to get yourself to look at things in new ways, which usually helps free you from approaches that may be causing you difficulty.
