Chess Men

Well, this was an all day project, but I like the way it came out. I hope you all do, too. 100% ZBrush 3, with the exception of the lens flare (Photoshop). If you’d like to see wireframes, I’d be glad to share, however you should know that I went subd crazy and each piece is between 250 and 500k polys. Unfortunately, I can’t reconstruct subdivision because each was combined with different parts via mesh insert, which as we all know has to have each part at subd 1.

Anyway, I hope enough people get to see it before it gets lost in the shuffle of new posts.

Very Nice! I love that knight. You should add some stone emboss to that rook, using the alphas. That would look sweet.

These are the pieces in Ivory. I like the MATCAP that I made, but it doesn’t render like this in Best Render. It ends up looking like scrimshaw ivory instead of this yellowish look, which I prefer.

Makes me want to play some chess slosh… well done! :+1:

Love the chess pieces… I am like you, I prefer alot of the stuff with the new preview render…best renders look like dooky on my works. The only thing is ya needed more shadows on the board to add to the realism you have achieved.

Great job though Bri.

very cool =)

…are a little more little

oh! Yeah, missed that…You should make the chessboard squares much larger…

Thanks, guys. The chessboard floor wasn’t really intended to fit the pieces. I did make a chessboard and had all 32 pieces on it, but it was a huge memory hog. Once I retop the pieces to reduce their polycount, I will probably do another setup.
