Changing color and texture of subtool

HI,
I have a model that I “Split to Parts” in the subtool pallet. I used UV master “Unwrap All” Polygroups highlighted to get my UV maps. My problem is when, in the subtool pallet I choose a part to color differently than the rest, even though I mask everything else, have everything else hidden, still the rest of the model takes on the new color! What do I do to get each part to color/texturized differently?

Thanks so much!
Karen

http://docs.pixologic.com/user-guide/3d-modeling/painting-your-model/polypaint/painting-a-head/ There’s lots of answers to this topic if you search for it on here.

Filling each subtool with a different material and color

Buttons at the top of canvas

Mrgb - Select this if you want to fill the subtool with material and color.

Rgb - Select this if you want to fill the subtool with color only.

M - Select this if you want to fill the subtool with material only.

1. Select the subtool you want to fill.

2. Select either Mrgb,Rgb or M (as above).

3. Select either your color or material or both, depending on what you want to do, from the Material palette and Color icon.

4. Go to ‘Color’ menu and click ‘FillObject’.

Now select another subtool, and another material and color, and the first one you filled will remain with the material and color you assigned to it.

Note: After it’s filled, you can begin to polypaint the subtool also.

Texture Maps

As far as textures go, each subtool can have it’s own texture map. Import the texture map you want to use via the Texture menu then select the subtool and go to ‘Tool > Texture Map’ and click on the big square icon to select the texture from the texture palette. Note that you need a UV map on the subtool in order for this process to work.

If you have polypainted the subtools and you want to create texture maps from the polypaint, then you would select the subtool and go to ‘Tool > Texture Map > Create’ and click ‘New From Polypaint’ button. To export the Texture Map, in ‘Tool > Texture Map’, you would click ‘Clone Txtr’ which will put the map in the Texture menu, at which point you can export it.

Thanks so much that works fine! I just wonder why all the other tools change color when I choose a new one and fill it, all the others, except the ones I just did via the procedure described above, change as well. Any way to prevent that? Rather disconcerting I find.
thanks!
