Change model for retopolgy?

I started retopologizing a model…and i realized that the map i used to guide while point punching has some tris and n gons.

so i went back to the polypaint model and adjusted the map.

how can i get the new map into my retopology tool?

i tried simply selecting the new mesh…but nothing changes.

so i appended it as a subtool and turned the transparency on
but its not strong enough to see my new poly paint under the one on top.

any ideas?

make an adaptive skin from the topo you’re making right now
make it at level 1

new zsphere
rigging>bind mesh (new painted topo lines model)
topology>select mesh (adaptive skin you just made)
topology>edit topology/mesh (ctrl+shift off model to unhide missing chains)

work as usual.
