Chain Insert Mesh

I’m currently experementing with curve insert brushes (creating them). I found a few tutorials about chains but there are still questions left, the most important for me:
For a normal unspectacular chain I want to have a link and each next link should always be rotated 90 degrees, so that all the links intersect correctly. I havent found a function for that so the only workaround I know is to make an insert brush, which already consists of two intersecting links. The problem here is that these two links, drawn out on a curve, are stiff which makes the chain look unrealistic.
Is there a way to make my links rotate so that each link is seperate?
