cemond's sketchbook (2009)

I didn’t realize how flat his forms were and went back to a low sub-D and applied some inflate/magnify. I think the forms are much better now.

Wow, you work fast and your sculpting skills improved alot since your last model. Did you start this new model out with zspheres or a low poly mesh? Keep it up, Cemond! :+1:

great works

Here’s an update for the sketchbook, nothing great.

I tried polypainting but got nowhere with that. Photoshop was crashing and I still didn’t understand how to get a proper look of skin.

Lack of updates in the SB recently, been a bit discourged, I feel sometimes like I’m actually getting Worse! :rolleyes:

Anyways, thanks for all the comments as usual guys, take care.

Hi Cemond, with the polypaint I guess it’ll be the same thing as with the sculpting: just keep goin’ and it will improve (just look at your sculpt improvements man!) :+1: !

I haven’t posted in a while, been working on alot of anatomy stuff and trying to learn some 3ds on the side. I’m starting to get back into sculpting a bit now, and just working out some kind of character from this Sphere, not sure yet where I’m going yet with it.

I do have a question tho, does anyone ahve a good techqniue for making eyelids? I’ve been trying for about an hour to get a eyelids sculpted in and make a hole to place spheres into but I cannot for the life of me get it to look right.

Cemond, could you post a few screenshots of the eye try-outs that went wrong according to you (maybe front and side views if you can). Might be easier to comment when we can see the specific problem areas. See ya!

Hey etch, thanks for the reply, I’ve attached an image with an example of where I’m at. And while your at it, any other tips on the face forms are well appreciated :D, I know the nose/mouth have been giving me trouble sometimes as well lol. I know the anatomy, it’s just finding the way to sculpt it at this point.

Thanks!

Hi Cemond, could you post a side view of that sculpt as well? I’m compiling a sheet containing some pointers and stuff I struggled the hardest with while learning to sculpt eyes, but I need that side view to give a more complete answer. Give me a bit more time. See ya! :slight_smile: !

Random head sketch:

Hi Cemond! I’ve attached two of my eye ref sheets. I’ll do some paintovers on the heads you posted this weekend. Your sculpts look very good tough! But, if you find the time-post some side views of those 2 latest sculpts. See ya later man! :+1: !

very nice tough sculpts…nice texturing of superman…super tough stuff dude…keep it up

Hi Cemond! I hope the attachment I’ve included with this post makes sense (my poor English…). If not please don’t hesitate to drop me a line cause I feel this is on of the most imporant parts to master when sculpting heads. If you don’t get this right (or understand it thouroughly, you’ll struggle continuously on new head sculpts).

See ya! :+1: !

Wow Etcher, amazing help you have given me. I cannot thank you enough!

@Etcher
Thanks for the very clear image you posted for cemond! The zygomatic bone is very hard for me to do right aswell so this will surely help me as much as it will help him. :smiley:

@cemond
Very nice sculpt. I low how you dealt with the eye area. Especially the wrinkles and pocket below his eye. Something immediately stood out to me as a sore thumb though. His ear(s)! When i browsed back i noticed that almost all your models suffer from badly sculpted ears. They are really quite easy to do once you get their shapes in your head. I suggest you go to the below link for a fantastic explanation on the ear:
http://www.theartofanatomy.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=5&sid=a8af22418ea04c1d188484899b74a905

And sculpt a few ears for practice. It will do a lot for the overall quality of your sculpts. Keep up the great work! :slight_smile:

PS
Also try thickening the eye lids some (upper eye lid being the thickest). I think that will do a lot for your sculpt also. (better to have them a little too thick then too thin, imho they are on the verge of being too thin right now)

Haven’t posted in my sketchbook in a while, heres my newest wip, Hope I have improved :smiley:
