The inspiration came from a sculpture i say in Costa rica. The cat was modeled in straight pose, detach, posed, and reattach. It was a difficult process and i wanted to catch that lazy feline vibe. The cat’s fur was painted by hand. The starting idea was that i wanted something stylised and also i didn’t want to get into fur
this is a nice start, i love the wood texture and the cat looks good mostly, it seems to be smiling too much and the pose is somewhat strange and uncatlike.
the cat is stylized, but the wood isn’t, it seems like they don’t belong with each other. i would like to see some more variation in the “fur” because the little whites on the cheeks aren’t that noticable. good stuff though.
really kool Gtiber,
When i saw it i felt a connection between the cat and the wood.
In my opinion he redesignd the wood structure with his nails.
cats rule!

spaceboy412/PJC_Slimo : Thanks for your comments. It is a pretty strange project and i learned much from it.
joep : Wow thanks joep. I’m pleased that you say that connection.
I may not be the most perceptive person on this board, but, especially after reading what others wrote, I believe you deserve more compliments.
My first impression of your post was that it was extremely realistic. Put this in an enviroment, and I bet that most people would be hard-pressed to tell whether this was sculpted and painted, or a photograph.
The wood of the stool, and its rough construction appearance are absolutely amazing. The cat is almost as good. The fur looks very realistic, and the only problems I see with it are in how much its body and fur weigh down upon the limbs (not enough) and the positioning of the hind legs. The cat’s head also seems a bit large in proportion, as though it were a fat, old cat, with a mouth that tended to sag a bit.
The more you study it, the more I’m sure you can find areas that could use improvement. That’s true even of master artists work though.
Congradulations on expressing the sense of a sleeping cat in a picture that looks real on first glance.
Yes id like to add my small piece of comments too…
The owrk is good and top row but the hind legs needs more work, it looks so thin wpecially the thigh.
Except tht rest is fine
Keep it up…

Wildsketch: Thanks you for taking the time for writing me that long message to me.I needed that :). I tought i was done and wanted to move on to the next project but it might deserve a bit more sculpting. I just hope the texture of the fur follows.
Tina Albert: I’m glad you like it. You are right the hind legs need more work.
I really like it. Having a cat of my own, this is really nice. I think it could be a great figurine statue to place on someones mantle. Good work.
