Can't subdivide

Hello friends. I am having this weird problem. The divide button is disabled. I can’t divide my model further. The whole model currently stands at around 4.5 million poly. I wanted to go up a division for detailing. The shortcut ctrl+d does not work either. Any idea what could be the issue?

Also does anyone know why does changing the light on the light sphere does not affect the light on the model while using a matcap? It only shows the changes when using a non-matcap material.

Here is an image to better show the issue:

I don’t know the answer to your first question, but as to your second question, the Matcap materials have lighting information already baked into them so light changes have no affect. If you want to adjust lights, you have to use Standard material.

Thanks a lot for your reply. So the only way is to do the lighting in another software? Well thats bad since I really liked this material and don’t know if I can use the same in some other software. Do you know of any such way? Like baking the material into the model? I have seen a video of baking materials into textures but not into a model.

There is something you can try in ZBrush regarding your Matcap.

  1. Select your Matcap and Go to Material > Modifiers submenu and enable S1 if it isn’t already enabled. Click CopySH button to copy shader.
  2. Select TriShaders material in Standard Materials palette and in its Modifiers submenu, select S1 then click PasteSH to past the shader.

Now go to Light menu and play around with light settings and Material menu to play around with material settings.

Thank you so much. Shall definitely try that out
