Can't start ZB. "Side by side Config" error - Vista 64

I’m trying out vista, and so far so good except i went to install ZB3 and after the intallation I got an error msg saying.

“The application has failed to start because its side- by- side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log for more detail”

From what i can tell from searches online this seems to be related to MS Visual Studio, I’ve tried installing the latest 64bit Runtimes off Microsoft’s website…but so far nothing has helped.

It just refuses to run. On the Zwiki it says

"Once installation has begun you will be asked to install a C++ 2005 Redistributable Package. This package must be installed for ZBrush to run properly. If it is not installed you may get a side-by-side configuration error.

If you do not install it now and encounter a problem later you can install it from the troubleshooting folder in the ZBrush install directory."

If i manually install the runtimes and skip this step it doesn’t work.
If i dont and let it complete it doesn’t work…

Has anyone else come across this? an any fixes?
Otherwise i guess i’ll have to go back to xp64

Please check your Add/Remove Programs for Microsoft Visual Studio Orcas. If it’s there, please uninstall it. This should resolve your difficulty. If it does not, please contact [email protected]

well not sure what the issue was, but a clean install of vista fixed the problem

another forum said this was an issue with the C++ redistributable. They said uninstall and reinstall and then reboot.

I had this problem in Win7 x64. Inside the Zbrush 3.5 folder there is a folder called “Troubleshoot Help” inside there you will find “vcredist_x86_VS2008_sp1.exe” I ran it and now 3.5 works great.

What I found weird was I also found forums posting you needed vcredist, and after installing ones from Microsofts page, I still was at a loss. Good thing Pixologic included the proper installer.

You guys know this is a thread from 2 years ago, right?

LOL, just noticed. However this exact error applied to 3.5, so I guess that makes it valid to post on…
