Can't sculpt on a subtool when thickness is low

Hi all,

I have a very weird error when trying to sculpt on subtools I made in 4R5.

I’m trying to make a ‘mutton chops’ moustache for my character but can’t seem to sculpt it after initially moving it around. I’ve tried extracting from a mask, and working from an appended sphere. Same result. Dynamesh also doesn’t affect it.

Here’s a link to some screenshots of the error in action: http://imgur.com/a/P8yyS

Hopefully someone can solve it, since it’s seriously impairing my ability to sculpt.

Thanks!

Are you working in 4r6?

You can’t affect it with any brushes?

You’ve tried clearing the mask?

Nope I’m working in 4R5.

Well I’ve used clay, clay tubes and standard and they all have the same result. The problem isn’t that it isn’t affected, it’s that when i sculpt on the subtool the other side of it gets ‘sucked into’ the sculpt, so it looks fine from the front or top, but the sides and back are deformed like in the picture.

Yeah I’ve done that a couple times and also pulled out a new sphere subtool which all acted the same.

Why haven’t you updated to 4R6 P2? Backface auto mask on? Brush size smaller than thickness maybe…

May be backface masking would help. Brush>Automasking> Enable BackfaceMask

I don’t really see the need since I’m only sculpting sketches for now.
Yeah I turned that on after 4Z4R’s suggestion. It’s working better now in fact it occurs much less!

Thanks man, I still get it sometimes but I think that’s nearly solved it!
